I noticed on an earlier thread re. replaceable batteries from Duracell which had good reviews,I looked on their website and saw that they also do, amongst other things, SDHC memory cards at a reasonable price. Anyone had experience with these cards please?
 
Hi Ken, I have 4 or 5 16Gb Duracell Class 10 SDHC cards and use them between my 5D3 and 70D. I've also got 4 16gb Duracell CF cards that were for my 5D3 and 7D/1D3 before I sold them and got my 70D. The wife has a couple of 16Gb SDHC cards for her 550D and then a 650D and both the kids have 2 each of the 8Gb SDHC cards.

All Duracell, all have been faultless in the 2 years or so that we've been using them among all the various bodies we've had. The read/write speeds are very good and I've timed the CF cards in a USB3 reader and they are bang on or slightly above spec. I really cannot say a bad word against any of the Duracell cards we've got. I've got a Sandisk Extreme 4Gb CF card that I first had with a 7D but since buying the Duracells it's never been out of the case.
 
My main card is a Duracell 8GB SD card. No complaints from me - I'm not a speed freak however if that's important to you
 
Not SD but my Duracell CF cards are excellent - just be sure that you buy from a reputable supplier to avoid the counterfeits that are out there.
 
I have 2 Duracell CF cards that i think were purchased from 7DayShop afew years back. The write speeds seemed fine (i'm not a machine gun shooter anyway) but the read speeds seemed terrible, took a long time to get them off the card onto the computer. I always accepted that it was just one of those things, when i upgraded my camera to a D300 i bought 2 Sandisk ones which were leagues better leading me to believe that there was a serious problem with the Duracells, whether they were a dodgy batch or immitations i don't know. Either way i don't use them anymore unless i really have to!

I'm sure plenty of people have had good experiences with them and you may too, but from my experience i'll just be buying Sandisks if i need more.

I agree, I use Duracell cards on my 60D's and have (touch wood) never had any problems at all neither speed related or reliabillity related.
 
I had a few if them not the quickest in the world but never had any problems with them.
 
I'm 99.9% sure they only badge their cards so being confident of a high quality and reliable product is very difficult. Also there is no guarantee the controller chip in the SDHC is of a reputable manufacturer.

I shoot sport inc Premiership football I would not trust any card except Sandisk Extreme Pro's in my Nikon D3S and D700's. I MUST have 100% reliability every time I shoot.

In the Far East there are mass producers of basic cards which can put any name on them. I think this (with full respect) is where Duracell come in as well as lots of other 'branded' cards.

My advice is buy the very best you can afford and stick the the big memory names like Lexar and Sandisk etc.
 
A guy at my old work bought several for his 30D and 7D and all the cards failed within 6 months. Nothing to do with bent pins, just images going missing that were later retrieved via software. I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole...
 
I don't know about the reliability, cost or guarantees of other card manufacturers but since the time I started using SD cards the only ones that have failed, for no obvious reason at least, have been Sandisk cards. They were the original SD cards though and not SDHC so you can see how long ago it was. The only other card that has failed was a no-name card that the lock button broke and made its way into the card interior.

I guess there's some bad ones that come through from every manufacturer, at least with the Duracell cards you get a 10 year guarantee, I don't know about any of the other makes as I haven't used any in nearly 3 years. I only used no-name ebay cards before I got a DSLR and TBH I didn't have any failures with them either, but I got the Duracell cards as the files were much bigger in MB's from DSLR's as opposed to compacts and bridge cameras I used before.

To be honest you will find good and bad reviews from every manufacturer of every piece of equipment on the planet, there are cars made in the same factory on the same day that will have different power outputs.

I believe Duracell cards are made by Dane Electronics... of which I know nothing about.

In saying that like I say the cards have a 10 year guarantee so can't be too bad.

As with every product out there, the name on it is not always the maker

I believe Duracell get their cards from Dane- Electronics who are the USA trading name of New-Dane, who in turn get cards from thier major investor Gigastone.

I've never used Duracell cards, but I no longer buy Sandisk either preferring Transcend or Delkin.
I would agree with a post earlier that with the cost now being so close you may as well go for one of the well known brands, Sandisk, Lexar, Transcend.

Wow, some mixed results there folks, thanks for all your replies. I'm using a lexar SDHC in my D90 at the moment, and I have previously used Sandisk and have had no problems with either. I am more interested in quality and reliability than speed and have wondered if I have placed too much emphasis on mbps or class 10.
