I have just tried to download some pictures using 'picasa' but there are two of each image.

Can anybody offer any suggestions as to why this has happened?
 
Give us some more to go on.......

Downloaded from where / how / two images the same / different filenames / extensions?????

Shot in RAW + JPG on your camera?
 
The pictures were taken on a 20d so on a CF card. I have put the card in a reader and into computer and they have downloaded via Picasa. Unusually they are not also in 'my pictures.'

Two copies of each image has downloaded with one copy being decidedly "washed-out."

Yes the images were shot RAW + JPEG.

I have deleted the images not required, transferred the rest to an album in picasa and attempted to burn a disc without success. Picasa is driving me mad!
 
Soooo - the reason for there being 2 copies of each is down to RAW + JPG, the "washed out" version being the RAW file (camera adds contrast and saturation to the RAW file and then turns it into the JPG).

I use Picasa - but as a very simple viewer.

I put my card into computer reader, copy the files into the appropriate folder in "My Pictures", and eject the card..... only then would I open Picasa as otherwise it starts to catalogue ALL the files on the card.

If I wanted to burn a CD - I'd use a different program.
