Yes
Is there any software that finds duplicate photos on my hard drive so that I can erase them? I seem to have lots of duplicates on my pc and it will take me ages to find one by one.

There are lots of programs that will find duplicate files, the big problem is you have to trust the software that they are duplicates.

I would prefer to initiate a search for all .jpg/.raw in windows then sort by name, at least that way you can see if you have duplicates and check them before deleting them, its going to be alot slower but safer.

You reckon eh? Well, I do have an hour to spare...
Thanks mate! Greatly appreciated!

Yeah for the sake of a couple of hours I wouldn't want to risk losing 1 image let alone a whole batch :D

Just put some good music on and sort through

I wonder if there is any software that'll search the EXIF details and delete based on the time taken?

I'd love to do the research...but I'm filling in forms :p

what about finding your own images on the net? Isn't there some program or site that searches if someone has used your image? Sorry to hijack but it's sort of similar... ish. :D

Been working for some time now, managed to delete... 5gb out of 250 :p
I'm sure there was some kind of software that was searching through photos based on content using some kind of algorithm!

Okay, quick check on google led me to moleskinsoft clone remover, which will find your dups, with file name, size and preview image. The free download lets you delete upto 20 files, you need to buy if you want the full program. You chose the folders it will then search them and offer you some options for deletion and from what I can tell put all duplicates seleted into a folder for you to delete.

Probably other progrms around, but this might be worth looking at, although I haven't used it fully myself so I can't say exactly how good it is.

Yes I can't remember the name either, I tried it once but it didn't find my photo on my own blog, so how well it would work on some dodgy Albanian site I don't know. Some people seem to have had sucess with it though. Wayne

Thanks Trevor and OutLore.

I've just tried the duplicate file finder! It's not bad, it found 810 duplicate files but since I'm a bit reluctant to erase them, I just moved them to a separate file to check if they are indeed duplicate files. Good thing is that it moved them with their respected folders, i.e creating new folders in the folder named as the folder they were before. But it will probably take me the same time to check them as it would've taken me to look for them :p

Thanks again guys!

Another good tool is recover my files, just in case you delete them and then empty the recycle bin. You have to be recover them before windows uses the free space though, but it is nice to have a tool when you get that sinking feeling just after you hit empty bin.

Just be careful you don't end up deleting your backups :bonk:

Try Duplicate Image Finder $10

http://www.rmsft.com/dif/landingpage.html

I have had an earlier version for a long while but haven't had the need to use it for ages so I don't know how the current version performs. I had no complaints about my earlier version. It shows you the duplicates for comparison.

how do u get windows to search for duplicate jpg/raw pictures:shrug:

ACDSee has a duplicate image finder.

Also when you copy a file that's named the same, and there is a possible overwrite, it pops up a nice box with a large thumbnail and file details and asks if you want to rename/overwrite/cancel.
