HELP!!!

While I was ill, I did a fair amount of file housekeeping and I'm sure I've ended up with multiple copies of many files and folders. I've been gradually going through them manually and rationalising them onto a couple of external HDDs with the intention of keeping just a few "work in progress" type folders on the internal drive.

I'm sure there's a good duplicate finder available from somewhere but I would rather get one through personal recommendation than trial and error! If possible, I would like it to come from a site that doesn't use opt-outs rather than opt ins for little extras like Chrome... (Or at least a warning to look out for them!)

The auslogics one works OK.

Thanks for the suggestions - will investigate when I get a chance!

Have a look at EasyClean -

http://download.cnet.com/ToniArts-EasyCleaner/3000-2094_4-10522776.html

It is a general housekeeping program - gets rid of temporary and unnecessary files, cleans the registry but alos has a very handy duplicate file finder. You can apply various filters to find only certain files or every duplicate file.

Apologies if you know this already but there can be duplicate files which are not only perfectly OK, but also, so I read, essential. It seems the OS may put files with the same name in various places so care is needed when getting rid of duplicates.

Well, it's duplicates of photos that I would be looking to reduce, and I know there are loads of them! Some are deliberate (or just down to laziness!), I tend to use the same file numbers for PPed shots and resized ones as the originals but put them into sub folders within the main one (So Crete June 13 would contain all the originals and sub folders called prints [with yet another sub folder called A3+], resized for web and maybe others!)

I'm off out in a bit and out again this evening but will have a look at the above contenders.
