i drove from D&G to ayr via the galloway forest and came accross a hydro electric plant, the plant itself wasn't that spectacular but the damn was something else as was the drive. can't help you on locations for places as there is loads there and worth the trip back if you do miss something lol
i have just booked a trip on a shara bang to there 10 mins ago. i have portpatrick earmarked, it has a lighthouse, nice harbour and an old house/castle on a cliff top. So far so good for me, don't know what her indoors is doing
the caostal route up to ayr is fantastic too, there is so much to see i doubt a weekend would cover it, if you have time take a day tip up to ayr as the journey is well worth it and a differant route back down makes it twice the experiance
Kirkcudbright is a lovely small town on the Solway. Good for harbour/fishing boats, and ruined 16th century fortified town house. Up the hill is a large cemetary set on a hill overlooking the town; great photography there.
And this place http://www.follytowers.com/cowpalace.html
is just wonderful for photos if you like a bit of quirky dereliction! As the blurb says, the adjacent farm is private, but I've been twice roaming around inside the cow palace itself with no bother.
