Whithorn itself and some of the cliff/coast walks are stunning. Great wildlife and some old ruins around. Same for Portpatrick.
The hills, waterfalls and lochs around Glen Trool are fabulous and should offer real interest. Above them Merrick is often good for plane photo's as they do an inverted turn over your head...
The coast road from Sandgreen around Borgue and on to Kirkcudbright offers real variety of landscape, and Kirkcudbright is lovely too.
That should also mean more time out the car on foot that having to go right back over to Kippford etc.
