Evening all,

Been looking at getting a Samsung Galaxy tablet, the 7" model - and have a question regarding inbuilt memory vs MicroSD memory.

Why would anyone buy the 16 or 32GB models, for the much higher price, rather than buying the 8GB model and adding a fast 16GB MicroSD card?

Genuine question... cant understand why you wouldnt want to do this?

Thanks for any help

It's getting to be less of a problem now but some apps don't work well if stored on a memory card, most can be installed on a card these days but not all. Inbuilt memory is going to have faster read write speeds.

Personally I'd go for a mid range memory size, 16gb and a decent SD card, that said I've got a 16gb Nexus 7 and am nowhere near filling it but I don't have any movies or music stored on it.

I don't think you can store apps onto the sd card of a Galaxy Tab so it has to go on the internal memory. Not an issue to me really as it would take a massive amount of apps to fill the internal memory on mine! I got the Galaxy Tab 2 7 incher with 8gb memory for £149 and am waiting for my £30 cashback. I've also thrown a 16gb Kingston memory card in it which cost me the princely sum of £8.

I can't stand the Samsung Kies software, so it's good to be able to whip out the memory card and drop music and books on it via my pc. Samsung have just rolled out Jellybean for it too, so it's now running really smooth.

fantastic little tablet for the price.

You can store apps on sd on any android device, later versions can handle it natively, on earlier ones use apps2sd or similar.

So, referring to the OP's question, you may as well buy the cheapest 8GB Galaxy and pop in a 'cheap as chips' 32GB SD card?

Depends on what your usage is, large games for example might be better suited to storing on the internal memory, likewise films which is why I suggested a midway solution 16/16 or 16/32. A good fast sd card doesn't cost much.

Ah right, not got one myself but rooting it seems to be easier than some. Mind you everything is easy when you know how and you may not want to do it any way.

not an issue for me mate, it's easy enough but it was kind of a present from the wife and if she finds out i've been faffing about with it she'll hit the roof :) . Give it time, because i'm itching to see if I can get MIUI on it!
