A friend of mine asked me this the other day whilst I was shooting some stuff for work:

So, with an expensive camera like that, why do they still make it make that stupid electronic shutter noise when it doesn't even have a shutter?

I corrected him...after I'd stopped laughing

Out of the mouths of babes and innocents . . . come hints about what the camera-buying public wants. And not many want a big and heavy SLR!

Of course, it's mirror-slap that he's hearing. How long before electronic viewfinders are excellent, making the mirror redundant, and heralding insane FPS capabilities along with quiet actuations more suitable for theatrical performances, wedding ceremonies etc?

I like the mirror slap :) Although it's nice having it nice and quiet on my Nikon compared to the almighty KACHUNK on my Oly!

louder the better, makes people squirm more as you take 30 photos in quick succession:lol:

Updated from nikon coolpix 8800 to D60. Love the sound of the shutter, using the coolpix never felt like you were taking a picture. Hearing the shutter makes you feel part of the experience of taking a great shot.
