Hi Guys and Gals...

Im flying off to Dublin in the morning, im taking me camera gear with me but im not sure what there is to see once I arrive. Anyone got an tips? i will only be staying 3 or 4 days and I believe the hotel is very near the centre of the city. Im planning on taking both cameras, 24-70 and 70-200 lenses and my PD70x... dont want to be lugging more kit around than I need.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions, Darryn.

Dublin city centre is great if you like building sites.

I was there a couple of weeks ago and there seems to be building work on nearly every street.

A quicky, do they have proper 3 pin plug sockets or are they EuroStyle 2 pin? I will be taking a battery charger or 2.

Some lovely Architecture is to be found - the old town hall is great - plenty of old buildings - but Temple bar is great for a good night out!

Let me know the name of the street your hotel is in & I will give you a run down on the area. Having said that, the city is reasonably compact. Depending on your interests you should find a lot to photograph. As for Temple Bar, it's popular at the week-ends with Essex lads and girls on stag parties - a great buzz but not exactly the cultural centre of Dublin.

OK Dreeder: you'll be on the South bank of the River Liffey, that flows through the centre of Dublin. Lots of photo opportunities on your doorstep. Nearby there's a new footbridge spanning the river. On the opposite side of the river the schooner Jeanie Johston is moored. This is a replica of a famine ship that transported thousands to America in the 1850s. Also on the North bank opposite your hotel is the International Financial Services Centre, with some fabulous new architecture and lots of old warehouses, lovingly restored.
A 10 minute walk along the river takes you to the shopping heart of Dublin. I suggest you stay on the South side of the river and explore places like Trinity College, St. Stephen's Green, Merrion Square etc. There's so much to see - e.g. Grafton Street, the most expensive (rent per sq. ft) street in Europe. Fabulous Christmas window displays in Brown Thomas. Famous also for its buskers. No doubt there'll be a street map available in the hotel. Enjoy your trip and let us know how you get on. Regards - Greg.

Thanks Greg, I will try and enjoy myself, but atm im in the foulest mood ive even been in... I hope a few Guinesses tomorrow will make me forget I ever bought a Brietling in the first place..... and breathe....

Wow! A travel service ;) Well done Greg, nice bit of work from the Dublin 20.

Dreeder hope your foul mood doesn't get you in trouble (and Ryan Airheads don't add to mood!) and look forward to results of trip

Got back from Dublin this morning, not checked my photos yet, but, I didnt get much time to take many and those I did were just holiday snap...

The only time I managed to get out and about on my own was for a few hours (5-7.30am) yesterday morning, but what with the cold weather, little sleep and being generally drunk I only managed 10-15 out of focus ISO3200 handheld shots of bad compositions... but it felt good... I hate family holidays. :) and im back at work in a few hours. :(

Im now booking to go again, this time on my own, same hotel and same duration... The place is great, the people are all foreign and by that I dont mean Irish, in fact I only met 3 or 4 Irish people all the time I was there, 95% of are people I met were young attractive Eastern European ladies... which is always good, next time I go I will be taking many many photos of them...

As for my mood, as soon as I left Blackpool it lifted, which was good, Ryanair were excellent, arrived early on both flights and was a nice smooth flight, the checkin monkey that made me unpack my hand luggage on the other hand, taking the lens and body caps off, he must have held the 1d up with the body cap off for about 1min, looking inside and I blame him personally for any dust bunnies.

And as soon as I got back to Blackpool the mood came back, stopping in at Ernest Jones on my way home to get a full refund on my faulty watch, but as id worn it (twice) they refused to refund me... got kinda loud and verbal in the shop... still fuming about it now.
