I'm visiting Dubai next week.Any suggestions which lens should I carry in addition to my gear below?Don't want to miss any good shots.

I would like to capture the tall buildings and landscapes.

Currently I have Canon 70-200 F4, Canon 18-200,Canon 50 F1.4

Thanks
V

You have imho a strange combination of 70-200 and 18-200?

A medium zoom would be more appropriate than your 18-200 although your 18-200 does cover the range of a medium zoom plus a lot more, it's just that a quality medium zoom would presumably give you better results.

Anyway you definitely need something wide like an EF-S 10-22 or Sigma 10-20, although having said that my 15-85 can catch the whole of the Burj Khalifa (which I helped to build!) at 15mm.

Thanks a lot Neil.I was planning on getting Canon 10-22 but since I plan to go full frame in near future I'm bit stuck.

What would you say about Canon 17-40?

Hmm yes you'll want a less extreme zoom for the wide end, I'd imagine the distortion would be pretty bad and depending on where you are that could ruin a shot (sure you could fix it in PP, but the 18-200 IQ isn't that great to start with)

and a really good bag, if you do the desert trip take only what you need as the sand will get in everywhere..

Yep, watch out for the sand/dust.

It's also going to be boiling so keep a bottle of water on you. When I was there, 12pm-4pm many shops where closed, but that was many years ago so things may have changed. Especially in the town centre(s).

Canon 17-40 is a great lens. If the F4 is fine for your current and future needs go for it!

Have you got a polariser or any ND filters as the sunny conditions will call for fast shutter speeds / small apertures.

Not sure how long you're there for, but if you can get to the outskirts - then you get to see a very different Dubai. I felt fairly safe when I was there, but there were 3-4 of us.

We also went on a desert safari, which was quite nice. I think it was £70-£80 each and well worth it, including transportation there and back and plenty of food. The hotel arranged it for us.

Best of luck and have a great time buddy!

Strange, I've been here almost 12 years, yet no problem with the sand/dust?

You will feel very safe on your own anywhere in Dubai.

Hi DoctorJ,

I'm not planning on taking the desert trip as we will have my 5 years old with us.Not sure if they will allow her for the trip.

Yes, I do have a Tenba camera bag to secure the grear.

Thanks a lot for the advise.

Cheers

You aren't ever safe anywhere you go :)

I said you will feel safe anywhere you go in Dubai. Obviously your safety cannot be guaranteed but crime levels in Dubai are waaay lower than in most other cities.
