We are going to Australia later in the year and thinking of trying the Dubai airport hotel, the one that is 'air side' for a one night stay to break the trip up a bit. I was wondering if anyone has used it, if so, am I right in thinking that we can check our main luggage through to Oz as we won't be clearing customs and just use hand luggage for the one night stay. We are flying with Emirates.

I think Emirates would be able to give you definitive advice...

Athony.

If the flight is booked as a straightforward trip through to Australia then your baggage will be checked through to your final destination and you won't see it again until you get there, to reclaim it you'd have to book the Dubai and Australia sectors separately so you can reclaim your baggage and check it in again for the next flight. The only thing is that will almost certainly be prohibitively expensive.

So yep, put the stuff you need overnight in your hand luggage. :)

If I'm being honest I wouldn't bother with an overnight stay, it's just going to make the journey even longer. Emirates are a good comfortable airline to fly with, staying in hotels in airports is hardly living the high life of travel or the best opportunity to sightsee so if it were me personally I'd book the next available connection and get the journey over and done with as quickly as possible. Naturally that's just my opinion, I've spent enough of my life in airports to not want to unnecessarily spend even more there!

Yeah. Another alternative is to pay for access to one of the lounges - similar to the business class ones - in Dubai airport if there's going to be a significant delay before the connecting flight. I've used them en route to India from SA, and they beat the hell out of sitting around in the terminal!
