Hi

I have a Sony A200 and am looking to updrade. Can someone give me any ideas of what to upgrade to (if at all worth upgrading as my budget would be about £600 in lens) I am looking for something with a tiltable rear LCD with live view, only because it hard work lying on the floor taking low down shots. Ive seen the Limux D1 which looks good with the live view and i really like the auto AF tracking, and yes i'm aware technically its not a DSLR. :)

If your £600 budget includes lenses then you'll have to let us know what lens or lenses you'd be after so we know how much would be left for a body. What lenses to you already own? If you stick with a Sony body would you be able to still use them or will your existing kit be sold to make part of the £600 budget.
 
if you have a selection of lenses already i would say stick with the sony option

if you do stay with sony, my favourite lens was the tamron 28-75 constant f2.8

also to be honest if you want tilting live view, sony i would say are the best at it as it's so quick. the a200 would be a good spare body. maybe look into the new a500 series.
 
i've upgraded from the a300 to a nikon d90. d90 is very nice and i prefer the nikon feel and menus, but got to say i miss the tilt live view from the sony, as the LV on the d90 is pretty pants and slow in comparison

I'd be happy for now to have a "kit lens" that most new DSLR's come with. Have looked at the sony but was looking to change as the accessories are not as easy to get hold of as the nikon's or canon's. Will prob give my A200 to my son who has just started off in photography.

I have only got the "kit lens" and a sigma 70-300mm lens which is away for repair under warranty duo to the gears stripping which ive since found out is a problem with the Sigma on a sony body! so Im not that fussed about getting a sony just because i already have the lenses if you get me?

In that case if you have a £600 budget then you could probably get a second hand Nikon D90 with a kit lens for that kind of money which is quite a camera for the money. Admittedly it doesn't have the tilt out screen but it does have live view to make low down shooting a little easier.

There may be some but I'm not aware of a Nikon or Canon DSLR with a tilt out screen but I'm no expert so there probably is one.

either the entry level nikon d3000 or d5000 not sure on model number, has a swivel screen. but the quality won't be an upgrade to the a200.

if you are happy with the a200, then i would suggest the a300 on a used market. but new look at the new a500 series as mentioned above.

personally not a fan of the sony kit lens.

nikon doesn't come close to sony on live view

Thanks but dont really like the feel of the new sony's the grip is way to small for a SLR

the A500/550 grip is similar to the A200/300/350...so you would be okay with them.live view/tilting screen wise...sony's is about the best there is on the market.i had an A350 before upgrading to the A700,which is a far superior camera,but lacks the live view/tilting screen which i hardly ever used...but do occasionally miss it when after those low down shots.

The A500 looks really nice but cant find a review anywhere :( anyone seen a review?
