Hi Guys.

I am off to watch West Ham v Blackpool at wembley Saturday.

Anyone know if I will be ok to take my 5DMKII ? I know the 70-200L Might be bit obvious but will i get away with another less obvious lens?

I would love to get some great images of the day.

Thanks

your not allowed any camera.. however what you can and cant get away wiht on the day is really going to depend on what steward you get.. a strict one that will (quite within his right) throw you and your camera out.. a half strict one who will warn you.. a half decent one who will let you take pics but not while the match is on ... or someone who doesnt give a monkeys..

Its a lottery.. poeple will tell you they did it and people will tell you they got stopped going in... its all luck on the day to be honest..

bottom line ..your not allowed... however....do you feel lucky ?:)

PS JUST IN CASE.... I think people going there for a day should be allowed to take pics.. record the day for themselves..

Thanks for that.

I was hoping to get some images of all the Fans out side, the Stadium itself. Etc.

Can I take it in if I don't use it??

:)

Oficially no, unoficially yes, but then again unoficially you can take a Bazooka in and blow the place up.

Haha.

Surprised that hasn't happened yet to be fair!!

I think I'd rather get caught with a Camera than a bazooka. ;)

I had this dilemma when I've been there for football matches, what put me off in the end was what do i do with the camera if i get there and they wont let me take it in? where you going to leave it?

Drives me mad, they will never say anything about a compact in your pocket!!!

That is not true...last time I went, the security searched me and she said, 'No way is that a compact' whilst frisking me.

When I went to the FA cup semi final last year I had a camera with me for the usuall photos of us at the stadium and the stewards seemed to accept that people have DSLR's now as cameras. I did take the grip off the 450D and put the 18-200mm on so it wasn't standing out and I had no problems taking photos inside even with a steward about 4 seats from me and yes I took some during the game but the camera wasnt at my eye all match only 3 or 4 shots I think. The stewards were really relaxed but it is like every where even the olympics they say no problem but they also say you may come up against a steward who doesn't sing from the same hymn sheet.

that's what SHE said!!!
:nuts::nuts::nuts:

it's private land, in a tickets area, with professional photographers around
taking pics on your phone camera or tiny compact isn't a threat to the normal photographer.

also I wouldn't want my DSLR/LENS exposed to that bunch of heathens :P

There is alway another turnstile ;)

Its not the turnstile that will stop you they are automated at wembley its the stewards inside that search your bag. really it should be done outside but they do it inside, I remember once going there that they searched and removed the lids of our bottles of coke.

I took this directly off the Wembly Stadium Rules & Regs. This is a list of prohibited articles:

"Flag poles greater than 1m in length and flares. Bottles, glass vessels, cans, flasks.
Frisbees and similar items, dangerous or hazardous items, illegal substances, explosives or ammunition; fireworks, knives, blades or other weapons, firearms, scooters, skateboards or other skates. Laser devices, smoke canisters, signs or items with corporate or inappropriate branding, unauthorised fliers, spray paint, large industrial style “permanent“ marker pens, prams / push chairs, transmitting devices, professional cameras & recording devices (This applies to cameras that have interchangeable lenses), large suitcases, lap tops, and back packs
(trip hazards), illegal merchandise items, water bottles (need to have the ability to decant), illegal charity collection utensils, motor bike helmets, umbrellas, darts, hampers and cold boxes, air horns, alcohol and animals (except service dogs & guide dogs)."

I have taken my super zoom bridge camera to the last 2 Challenge Cup Finals (Rugby League) and had no issues. I practically watched the match through my view finder too lol

What fun was that,
I did a similar thing at a stock car race at yarmouth stadium, I'd only shot one race and thought blow this, watching the action through a tiny screen, in the end I put the camera away and enjoyed the rest of the show through my own eyes :)

Even outside you need accreditation, I was stopped by security at Wembley only last week whilst taking some ground shots and asked for my accreditation / pass

I know a few other lads took some pics but they weren't asked

Goes down to what Kipax said and luck on the day

officially no but you never know what will happen on the day

so the reason you're not allowed is because you might sell the photos, taking away business for the official press photographers?

the rules arnt made by the press... not sure if the above is the reason.. in fact not even sure what the reason is...

I cant see any press buying a pic taken from row Z by a member of public... for a start it needs the iptc filling in and sending to the papers.. so it would require intent to sell by the person taking the pic... thats a different thing isnt it..

Those empty stadium back row with a fisheye could potentially sell, not sure about many others in all honesty

Well I am off to the Cheltenham vs Crewe match tomorrow. I am going to chance my arm with my trusty D50.

I don't want to take pictures of the game, just record the day inside and outside the ground.

How did you get on?

seen a couple of minuted at the end and there were a few cameras kicking about in the crwod

Decided against it in the end.

Just as well as everyone entering was checked and frisked on the way in.

I would have been stuck if they refused to allow me in with it.

It was fine, I decided to chance my arm and take my bag into the ground, worst case I left enough time to go back to our coach and store it safely.

So in through the turn style and a nice chap asked to search me, I thought I was done for, I opened the bag and the only thing he was interested in was if my camera bag had any bottle of water in it!

He never even mentioned the camera or lenses.

I have knocked up a quick article about the day.
