DSG (Currys/Dixons/PCW) Firesale of HP Touchpad - £89 - Be quick!

Someone on XDA claims to have been able to order a 32gb version from Argos about midnight 27th. They are one of the few retailers still listing them so it's possible that some stock is still in transit here and there.

I ordered one from York Argos yesterday and then told not in stock. I think someone is trying to create a feeding frenzy.

*LOL* Yeah HP are probably not stopping making it and always intended to sell it at £89 - that would be some clever marketing :suspect:

199 for a mediocre, unsupported, pad you cant install a different OS on that was selling for 89 a couple weeks ago? Not a deal for me.

you could say that 199 for a touchpad + case + charger that was selling for 510 a month ago IS a good deal...

Ps I'm using mine more than I use my iPad so its not that carp.......

No you couldn't. You paid £510 for supported product. The fact that HP has dropped it completely change the game and the value of course.

Indeed. A few tegra 2 tabs like the hannspad are only £150, sure their os is rubbish but just root it and put on hannstitan, so much better. The hp was and other tabs are way overpriced. Id spend at the very most 300 and that would be on a transformer. Even they will soon drop heavily in price with the quad core tabs coming.

16GB touchpads were all bought pretty quickly
32GB still available

HP have dropped the hardware but have said they will support WebOS and that there will be updates & enhancements to the Touchpad in the near future

Also with the fact that they have sold 1000,000 of them would make it likely that App support will continue

/edit, 32gb already mentioned above ^

You've clearly never used one, wrong on the first three counts, only right on the old price.

Clearly, I wouldnt have paid £500 as per previous members post for it or £199 as its twice what the new RRP was. So can you install other ROMs on it like the other Android tabs available?

You sure can

ooo, sounds alright then. My bad. edit, just had a google and looks like CyanogenMod has got something in the works. As long as other Devs support it wouldnt matter much if HP update or not.

Hoping Nvidia and Amazon get their quad core tabs out for Xmas.

OOS again.... when is third batch coming?

Just managed to get a 32Gb version at Car Phone Warehouse, very limited stock, sold out of the 16Gb.

115 for the 32 gig but every time I look they are showing no stock online of either model

Lucky you :) I'm currently abroad for another 10 days so won't be able to pick it up myself. Argh..

Wow that was lucky, was it advertised or did you just go in and ask ?

I read that HP are doing one more final run of the touchpad before Christmas but they said the price was down to the individual suppliers

quote from HP

let me first say thank you for enthusiasm for this product. Since we announced the price drop, the number of inquiries about the product and the speed at which it disappeared from inventory has been stunning. I think it’s safe to say we were pleasantly surprised by the response.

Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand. We don’t know exactly when these units will be available or how many we’ll get, and we can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone. We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase

Spot on... From a hannspad owner ;) the transformer really does look like the cleverest hardware out there, but too much money to drop on something that's really in its infancy and will get much better in a very short period of time :)

Sneaky and well hidden, it for a picture of the HP pad

I signed up to a stock alert at argos during the madness and got an email this morning to say the 32gb touchpad is in stock for delivery, however the website shows nothing. Most odd...

Glitch, item was returned and came back as In Stock. There is a huge discussion about this on different forums. People called Argos to confirm. Sorry guys... I'm starting to lose hope :)
