DSCL profile - strong cast

Can anyone advise me on how different an image should look when soft proofed on screen using a DSCL printer profile vs. the appearance using my working colour space? I'm editing in Apple's Aperture 3 and find that when I view images using the "onscreen proofing", using the profiles downloaded from DSCL's website, I see an incredibly strong yellow colour cast, plus a certain amount of reduced brightness. Is this normal? I've not calibrated my screen using a Spyder or similar, but thought that this was only really required to get totally accurate colours, whereas I'm seeing a very general and large colour cast.

For info my setup is

27" late 2012 iMac with brightness set to about 1/3 max, using standard calibration supplied by Apple
Images shot in RAW and edited in Aperture

Thanks for any advice
Dan

I use DSCL profiles when exporting from Lightroom to jpg to send for printing. If I view the jpg file on screen there is a strong yellow colour cast. The prints always come out perfect.

Best is to send off a small order and check with what you get back.

I took your advice and ordered some prints. The good news is they came back without a colour cast. The bad news is they're a little dark (nothing unusable) so I suppose my monitor is still a bit too bright. You live and learn.

the reason for the cast is that your monitor is showing you the DSCL printer profile, so you need to calibrate the monitor to suit the printer.

Mine's the same as the op so I contacted DSCL and they were very helpful, I sent them 3 pairs of images, one with my own srgb and the other using their colour space.

Fair play to them they sent me the prints free of charge first class so I could see for myself and theyre version prints are a little better than mine.
