dsc format...

dsc format? - I'm confused by default your D300 will use DSC as the first 3 letters of the file name is that what you mean

OK - assuming you're shotting in jpeg, then if you press the views button at the top left of Windows explorer then the file view will change & cycle till it becomes a thumbnail. If its RAW you're stuck with it that way

Afraid I don't know about macs though

downloaded the nef codec ,still don't see nef thumbnails??? the only way i can look at them is in photoshop ,if i click on one then it will show me a picture, in the lefthand side...so if i want to browse my photos its a bit of pick&mix ,choose a square and hope its one of the photos i want ..all i want to do, is see whats on my thumbnails, when i open my pictures.

Forgot to add...when it's installed you will get the 'register with Arcsoft' window, or similar, because it's free I suppose. You can't obviously close this window.

So, if you don't want to register, press control/alt/delete and end the 'Arcsoft' process.
 
I downloaded irfanview and just batch convert to jpeg takes a few seconds then view in windows and keep the raw files for pp later on.
