Hi all,
On Thursday I am hoping to be a druids corner for the track testing. My question is could I use the nifty fifty at that corner (for the leaning shots). My theory is that the prime will give me better quality than a zoom.

Why am I Anonymous???? lol

50 might be a little short even when you are so close and as it is quite a slow corner getting a decent shot with a kit zoom shouldnt be that difficult.

Thanks for the quick reply, Im taking all my lenses to have a good play around, so the kit lens will be there :) Thank you.

Hi Anon
I was at Brands just over a week ago and the inside of Druids was closed off, the gate was locked. If that is the case Thursday then a 50 will be too short.
Is it bikes or cars and long or short circuit please?

Its bikes on the short indy circuit. My friend who is racing says that druids will be open, I have emailed the track, hoping for a reply tomorrow!

Thanks Dave, I will probably be there

Be cool to meet up, I'm aiming to get there for 12 (morning commitments are a pain!) I'll be the one with the 450D cursing the blurred panning shots!! lol

Bad News:

Entry into the circuit and parking are both free of charge for trackdays at Brands Hatch.
You will be able to view and take photographs from all public areas including the pit lane, however the inside of Druids hairpin will not be open to the public tomorrow.

Where else is good to get the leaning shots?

inside of surtees is a good spot and the 50 with be good here although yet again a kit lens will also work well although i usually use around 150mm+ around there.

saying that as it a trackday and access is free it a good chance to get a good walk around and get shots from various angles without to much issues. outside of paddock hill is good, also the clearways area has some good spots (including a camera hole in the fencing) to get good shots from. As it a trackday there also maybe the chance of a few locations within the pits area being available that can produce some good shots.

Fluorescent waistcoat (£1 from Lidls) and a big white L lens and the marshal invited me inside the fence on the outside last time I was there for a trackday. Even then I was shooting a 70-200, pretty sure I was using the same on the inside.

I could tell you more later when PBase restore power to their servers...

Thing is, try it and see.

Other bit of the Indy circuit that's good is Clark Curve as there's a low fence their as they come around clearways

Will be completely different for a proper event like the BSB, no media accreditation or PL insurance, no chance of getting inside of the track

Ah sorry - didn't realise it was a proper event. On car/bike track days the marshals are usually ok with access, even suggesting good places to stand. On this track day occasion I was really lucky as the marshall invited me to the area between fence and tyre wall.

that marshal must have been bloody crazy then. just like the marshal you need to sign-on before you cross the fence for lots of good reasons.

Yup - I had signed on as photographer and driver. Don't normally get invited there though.

Druids was open :) now got some 400 raws to process :) images up soon! lol

Thank goodness the inside of Druids was open today.
I wandered over to Surtees which used to be a good spot - they are erecting more of their lovely high fences!! Bang goes another decent photo opportunity. :shake:

No way!!! :bang: :bat:

Nooooooooo!

Further digging finds that they are putting fences up on the inside of Druids... and the bit of Clearways that doesn't have big fences :(

I'll ask them...
