weekly DrRusty's 2012 Photo 52 Challenge -WK16 (Pride Added)

Well I decided upon the photo and pretty much got what I envisaged so I'm 90% happy (lighting was the tricky bit)

I take on board the comments about not being an image of "fear" but it could be said that fear is in the eye of the beholder ?

It is interesting how some images (e.g. a view striaght down from a high tower) imeadiately allow the viewer to see the fear (even if they aren't scared of heights). However, the photo of buttons means nothing to most people as most people don't fear buttons but for the few that do it is no less a real fear than a view from a tower for someone with a fear of heights.

Stuggling to find time between work and sleep again this week. I guess my 12 wk old son is making this project more difficult to achieve.

Well hopefully I'll have time tomorrow evening or as the case for the last two weeks Saturday morning. Still might playc a Joker but looking at the amazing weeks enteries so far that feels like cheating?

Like the picture and its education, who knew that you could be scared of buttons. Its a hidden fear almost, like you say its not a common fear but to those who are phobic about buttons then its terrifying!

Week 3 Sigh

Sigh by RJ Fletcher, on Flickr

Week 3 - again taken on Saturday morning !! really struggled with this one but in the end thought of this "simple" idea.

After a day out on your feet at work or shopping there is always the moment of stopping sitting down in a comfy chair for a cup of coffee Sigh !

This is one of a number of ideas I tried, not my first idea but I liked the isolation of the cup in the light and darkness.

Nice shot, it shows the theme well.:)

How did you get the sigh so neat in the coffee?

Printed text on to card then hacked it out (really needed a sharper craft knife) to make a stencil. Only to realise late last night as I was preparing the stencil that I'd loose the centre of the "g" !! had to glue on a thin piece of card back on holding on the centre of the "g".

Very clever, and a really nice shot!

Fear - Who needs wikipedia when TP can teach you things. Never knew buttons could be so scary.
Sigh - Nice idea. I could see something like this on a wall is Costa Coffee.

Matt - Thank you. I know I haven't even remotely got through everyone. I need a system to tick everyone off each week.

A fear of buttons is not ideal for photographers! Great DOF.

Your coffee picture is just how I feel every morning! Very imaginative and lovely lighting.

As always I was playing with the lighting and this one stood out as the best. Initial photos were more cluttered with other things but that wasn't working so I tired the cup on its own with some direct lighting.

Hi Richard. It's taking me ages to get through my subscribed list so sorry for not noticing your work sooner.

Love the direction shot, and bringing out the colours in the 2nd version makes it even better.

Great idea for the fear theme, cracking dof too, didn't know Steve Jobs had a fear of buttons, wonder how he went on using a mac!!!

The sigh pic for me is just genius. Very clever idea, superbly shot and I'd be knocking on Costa's door, armed with canvas shots of that to sell

Costa might not be happy that it is in a Statbucks mug - but Thank you.

 You get a Blue peter badge for that Richard.
A well thought out and applied photograph. It certainly works for the theme. I like the isolation of the cup against the background, lovely colour tones in there too. Good work all round. Iain

Hi Richard

Fear....tis strange what some people are fearful of....without the text I'd never have know there is a phobia of them....like the focus....good out of the box thinking

Thank you. Ok so the fear was a stretch but I liked the DOF in the end. Had to use what was at hand as away from home Saturday morning (which seems to be the only time I get to shoot).

I Struggled with "sigh" really had no idea. Then I remembered an idea I had from week one but had to change due to lack of time. Decided late on Friday to make the template and then give it a go the following morning. Just play around with a few ideas and this one stood out the best :-) I know thia week I've had lots of ideas for sweet but I will probably play safe owing to lack of time.

I groaned when I saw sigh but very happy with the result. How mnay left to do !!! I am glad I'm not doing a 365 i'd have no chance.

Thank you to all who have commented so far. I will try to make it around to everyone but probably not weekly.

Wk4 Sweet by RJ Fletcher, on Flickr

Ok so this week was always going to be about confectionery :-)

I had a safe idea but then thought way not capture smarties falling, well because it isn't easy. Ok so I think the way to do this is to use a tigger (sound to light / break beam) for a flash in a darkroom. However, I don't have one yet so that was ruled out.

Not massively happy with the capture as it is not quite what I was after but satisified with the process and need to think a bit moe about just how difficult my ideas will be to achieve before setting out :bonk:

Boosted satuation and light but I have only have limited editing capacity.

I thought of a similar idea with Jelly Bellys but I had no idea how to go about shooting it!

I think you've done well to get some of them in focus, I like it and a good composition.

There is a tiny yellow flake loitering just about one of the pink smarties top left, I know it's part of the sweets but I'd edit it out!

I've seen it but no decent PC at the moment to start playing with PS Elements10 sat on my desk :-(

When funds allow me to get a computer these are the things I can do to learn to use the software. I have some limited edditing on a netbook but very limited.

Hi Richard, sorry for not popping past recently. I'm playing catch up..

FEAR - Works well once it's explained, doesn't scream fear until you know the reason though, but that's the point we all fear different things and to some our fears are irrational. Like the DOF :)

SIGH - Spot on, I'm not a coffee drinker byt the Mrs always lets off a sigh with her first cup of the day, a great idea very well executed, like the lighting :)

Sweet - Nice drop shot, again well executes :)

Keep up the good work

I haven't a clue who I've seen and who I haven't. I must download the spreadsheet and tick off everyone at least fortnightly !!

Thank you for the comments - thinking cap is stright back on for "Secure".

Not visited your thread yet, must say you've got some great shots.

Think my favourite is your Sigh shot. I like the lighting and the creativity you've used. It really conveys the theme IMHO

Verygood capture for sweet, like the focus and movement feel about it.

It was fun and loud tipping smarties across the table whilst machine gunning the shutter hoping to grab a usuable shot. I think the hit and miss of this made the process less appealing than the simpler scene setting for sigh. Thank you

hat's a very good idea, one of which I may well attempt in the future. Good on you for trying it, it has worked fairly well.

Thanks - I think there are easier ways than trial and error !

Hi,

I like your sigh shot a lot, very well executed. Nice to see how you did it too.
I dropped sweeties in the dark for my sweet. Took dozens to get any worth looking at, but I think you've got it just right..

Thank you - need to do a little PS on the sweet shot to sort out a couple of areas but I am happy with the result in the end.
