As the title says, my Nikon SB-700 speedlight dropped out of my bag onto the hot shoe and has bent the actual metal plate meaning it's a bit still to get on and off the hot shoe of the camera. I've tried bending it back with pliers but I feel like I'm putting too much pressure through and it's going to break the mount, any ideas how to straighten it? Or are these parts easy and cheap to come by and replace myself?

Looking at the photos of the shoe when off the flash, you MIGHT be able to get the metal foot off to straighten it without stressing any plastic parts. Might be fiddly but could save you £35. Worth a try!

seves link phot looks as if he plate unscrews and comes away without the contacts. In which cast remove it and put the plate in a vice to straighten it. if you don't have a vice your local garage may be able to help or halfords

Good advice, cheers (y)

Scrap it all and buy some Sony stuff..... :p
I know he broke his flash through carelessness... but Toby doesn’t need THAT much punishment!

Though mending the SB700,then selling it and buying Godox which works (removely) on both Nikon and his Olympus might be a good suggestion and cheaper to buy a spare flash!

I had Nikon fix one of my hot shoes a few years back which had been accidentally broken. Given the unit was only a few months old, I didn't mind paying for it rather than buying new. I know of good recommendations for the Godox units too.

I think I would give the unit a quick strip down and see if the metal plate comes of on it own to put in a vice and if it cant buy the base then ..worth ago if its stiff working but just stiff.

Thanks for the reports. I’ll try removing and straightening first.
