Beautiful sunny day so I loaded up the Bronica with Ektar 100. My first go with colour film in this camera.

Drove for about an hour to my selected location. Took 9 shots then decided to move to a second location.

Put the Bronica in its bag but didn't replace the dark slide.

Got to the second location, took the camera out and the back popped open.

Can I assume the whole roll is, as they say, hoolied? Or is it worth getting developed in the hope some shots have survived?

Cheers

Probably hoolied but worth developing on the off chance it is award winning lomo instead ;)

Proper Hooley'd

Could be hoolied and welcome to the back fell off club ...:jaffa: have a jaffa cake and a nice cup of tea and make plans to do it all again on the next sunny day .... this time with the dark slide.

Oh dear.

OK, thanks - you've saved me some money.

And I've learned a lesson the hard way.

Dammit :mad::mad::mad:

:D Thanks. I've had a cup of tea and calmed down a bit.

I also hedged my bets and went back to location 1 with a roll of TriX. So looking forward to developing that.

To be honest, it's a cheap lesson. It could have been worse, and it's unlikely you'll do it again.

Honestly, you film lot just don't get it. Why are you making work for yourselves? I never have that problem with my iPhone!

:coat:

I tried to develop some iPhone pics in XTOL, all it did was wreck the phone and no images . ;)

If you want me to dev the film for you (no cost) to see if you've got anything, please drop me a message.

(I'm studying at uni and dev colour film in their labs)

Interesting... :D

i dropped a similar clinker or a whinnet today myself went out and shot a roll of ektar 100 through a vintage folder.
Worked out some number and F stops etc on a post it note and went shooting.

got home and realised i had got my speeds wrong 100/1 on my sheet should have been nearer 30/1.

hummmm do i bother devving what will be a real dark roll.

Did you shoot the whole roll out by the same amount? It won't match up exactly but if everything's out by the same amount when you get it devved maybe tell them you exposed it at ISO200 and see if it can be pulled back in a bit?

That's fantastic Chris. Thanks very much. PM sent.

If the film remained tightly wound on the spool, most of the exposed roll should still be OK. There may be some edge fogging, but it's well worth developing.

WHS ^^.......I've accidently opened the film back on my ETRS (twice now, you'd think I'd have learnt first time around!!)

Only lost three frames on the first film.

The second time has yet to be seen as it is presently "in use". Some of the film will likely be fogged / blank through light entry or winding the film on once the back was re-closed, nonetheless I'm fairly confident the majority of the roll will be ok.

Certain amount of luck involved ( or bad luck as the case may be) but worth deving imo.

Thanks for all the input folks - opinion seems slightly divided.

I was thinking about it and thought that some shots at least should be protected by the backing paper.

I took Chris up on his offer but Royal mail wanted £3 to post it. I decided to take a punt and dropped it into my local developer along with a roll of 35mm. I'll get it back tomorrow.

At least I'll know for sure one way or the other.

I shall report back.

Who do you use? Heron Cross photos seem quite good and might be local to you as well.

Just collected the negs.

The back popped open on frame 10 so obviously that's gone, and I wound to the end so I knew there would be nothing on 11 and 12.

The good news is though - the first 8 are totally unaffected.

Made my day that has.

Excellent news (y)

I always leave the darkslide at home (or in the bag). It only needs to be out about 1/8" and the shutter will be able to be fired, leading to lots of blank frames... apparently!

Steve.

Great news - delighted to hear that.

Sorry that the delights of the Royal Mail wanted a King's ransom to get it here (n)

Huh £3  I've just sent a camera body to a member by RM and it cost £2.60 2nd class.

That was probably before the recent rate rises, any thing which isn't a postcard has become very expensive to send by RM. It's almost like they don't want the business.

That same price finder shows the price I was given of £3 for first class.

With that quote I just walked round the corner to the place I get film developed.

For the sake of 40p I'm glad I did.
