weekly Drodd's Photo52 for 2011 - Week 51, 52 and bonus: Light, Glass, Nature (post 1545)

Hiya Dawn, is it a glass tobacco pipe? It's a lovely photo, liking the composition and the colour of the object.

Hiya Michael,

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. As for the composition I took on board something a member commented on another thread I posted yesterday, about a subject leading in from left to right (as opposed to the way I normally do things, i.e, right to left).

Nope it is not a glass tobacco pipe .... although I do like that guess.

Ooohhh, I am liking the suggestions of what the item is .... keep guessing :D

I will let you all know what it is if nobody can guess it correctly. But you will have to wait to find out.

Cheers

Dawn :)

its bugging me now! I have this feeling I should know what it is...

 sorry :p

You probably do know what it is ..... keep thinking :D

Cheers

Dawn :)

What a time of day to be racking my brains ! One more before I go to bed, a chemical flask......

Awww, Michael I am sorry this has got you racking your brains.

A chemical flask? what is one of those? Do you mean like a scientific tube for mixing chemicals ... a bit like those one used at school? ..... Nope

I am not going to reveal until others have had a stab at a guess.

Have a good nights sleep .... perhaps in the morning it will come to you.

Nite nite

Dawn :)

Hiya,

So here we are at week 21, getting closer to the halfway mark. What fun this has been so far and such a learning experience too. Thank you everyone for all your valuable contributions to my learning by providing constructive c&c, all of which is very encouraging.

Last night I took a photo of an object in my house and was intending to do a re-shoot of same, but was going to put it off until another day. However, when I saw the new theme earlier tonight, I couldn't believe how what I photographed last night fit the theme, so the re-shoot happened sooner than I had planned.

Anyway, I am not going to tell you what it is, but see if anyone can guess, so on that note I present week 21:

Twisted

This week no border added, for a change.

Any thoughts, comments, suggestions etc will be much appreciated.

Thanks for looking

Cheers

Dawn :)

It works well without a border owing to the background. I really like the colouring and lighting . Now for the guessing game, is it a heating element of some sort ?

Hiya Martin,

Thank you for the comments. I think I am starting to understand peoples thoughts about borders and how they work on some photos and not others.

With this one, the main reason I didn't apply a border is because the subject is quite eye-catching and I wanted same to stand on its own.

Nope .... it is not a heating element .... although if it was heated up it could be quite an unusual branding implement  (that probably doesn't sound too good )

I will give you a clue .... it is metal ...... keep guessing :D

Cheers

Dawn :)

It's certainly twisted ;) At first I thought it was a honey thingy, but the blob on the end is wrong, looks like glass so I thought a twisted fluorescent bulb, but the blob again, and to know it is metal...

Anyhoo, as a piece of interesting art it is a hit  I like the processing and the result, so well done - again!

Hiya Tina,

Indeed it is twisted and it seems to be twisting a few peoples minds too, dual purpose then

I like your ideas about what it is .... but nope none of the above. I might give the twisted fluorescent bulb a try some time though, I think I have one of those packed away somewhere.

It is amazing the things that are around the house one wouldn't even consider photographing, but with a bit of creative thinking can take the most unusual of objects and turn them into art.

Thank you for your kind words and comments about the image.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Like the shot Dawn , good VP and composition, pping really sets it off,

its a spring

I have a feeling Ive seen these before in common use but cant think what it is, I thought of a drink stirrer or piece of jewellery, will be looking forward to seeing who guesses it right and what it is

Hiya Dave,

Thanks for popping past and the comments.

Nope .... it is not a spring, nor a drink stirrer or piece of jewellery :D However I can see how you would think it is a drink stirrer as it does sort of look like that, but it would have to be quite a big drink then ;)

I am sure you have all seen something like this before, perhaps not this particular style, but the purpose behind it.

That is two more hidden clues I have added there :p

I hope you are all enjoying this as much as I am .... the suspense is killing me now and I want to say what it is .... but will wait a bit longer.

There will be an award for whoever guesses it right (or closest thereto). Just a bit of fun to spice up the Photo52 :D

Cheers

Dawn :)

I am certainly enjoying this! It's quite fun :D

Is it part of a wind chime?

Hiya Michael,

Glad you are enjoying this. I thought it would add a bit of a spin to this weeks theme of twisted :D

I'm liking the ideas people are coming up with .... amazing the thought process that is going on in peoples minds about what the object is.

Nope .... it is not part of a wind chime, but can see where you are coming from with that idea. It is too big to be part of a wind chime, and that would probably drive me and my neighbours :cuckoo: in the winds we have here today.

Do you want more clues?

Cheers

Dawn :)

is it for turning syrup or other similarly sticky substances

:)

Is it the end stop (finial) of a chic looking curtain pole ? I only thought that from one of the other views on your flickr

Hiya Martin,

Ooooh, getting warmer ..... ;)

is it for turning syrup or other similarly sticky substances :)

Hiya Emily,

Nope not for sticky things :D

Cheers

Dawn :)

Love the colour Dawn

I hope you have a full image of what ever it is, and in use!

As for my guess, I was going to say something to do with Chemistry, but your curtain pole 'warmer' comment rules that out.

So, is it one of those things on the wall for the curtain tie back rope bit thingy, or is it a handle of some sort?

Part of your bed frame!:D

Nope .... but you guys are getting closer .....

Here is another few clues .... it serves a purpose/use and is found in a particular room in the house.

Now you should get it :D

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hiya Neil,

Thanks, I haven't taken a full image of it yet, but will do and post same.

It is not a curtain tie back thingy, and in some way I suppose it does form a handle of sorts .... but for what????

Cheers

Hiya Kev,

 you learn quickly I see :D

WHAT... ??? AHEM!!! .. yeah.. aaannnnddd what do u mean... by this lol.. i learn quickly... when ** houdini's assistant you learn very quickly not to be around when he can't undo his own shoe laces..!!!

Hi Dawn,

Great shot, and composition. I like the angle, and the lighting.
I would have preferred a simple white line stroke border, but then again, I'm a sucker for borders :-)

As for what it is..... um, at first I thought it was something along the lines of this....

NSFW - Toy
But then again I do have a twisted mind, that normally lives in the gutter :-)

Or one of these
Drinky drinky

But as for a sensible guess.... er no idea......

Hiya all,

Wow you guys have been busy guess whilst I've been out this afternoon. Mom's birthday and all so just got home a short while ago.

is it a fire poker

Nope :D

I KNOW!!!>.. its a teasing stick for use in the african savanah, designed specifically for honey badgers...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRjESEa4oH0&feature=related

Haha Kev, but no. However it could come in handy as when if the need arose to ward off badgers.

Dare I ask what are HB's are  :suspect:

Adie

Hiya Adie, thank you for the comments and the suggestion of the border .... I too am a sucker for borders (but after previous comments from folk about borders I thought I would have a change on this one .... geewiz I tell you there is just no satisfying some folk )

As for your guesses .... but had to have a good chuckle at the first . The second guess is not it either. But a good try.

The OH says it's a toilet brush handle from Next!

Neil, your OH is almost there because of the correct room .... but it is not a toilet brush handle ... have another guess at the item .... thinking along the same lines and your wife will be the winner :D

I have the photo of the item ready to display to show you it in all its glory (now don't all rush off to my Flickr page as I have not posted it there yet) :p

I've also tailor made the award which will be presented to the winner via this thread......

So on your marks, get set ..... Go Go Go .... who is going to be the winner and get it 100% correct????

Thanks for all being such great sports, this has been great fun

Cheers

Dawn :)

toilet flush handle

No not exactly ..... but along the right lines as it is something used in the said room .....

think about what you can put on it ;)

now that is giving it away ....

You've been a great sport Michael, thank you

Cheers

Dawn :)

toilet roll holder

Hooorrrrraaaaayyyyy!!!!

We have a winner

Well done Adie .... it is indeed a toilet roll holder, well one that holds some spare toilet rolls :D

Here is a photo of the object serving its purpose:

Adie, I've even put a border around it for you :D

I would like to take this opportunity to present to you this specially designed award for correctly guessing the item (background is a custom design from a block of toilet tissue from said holder )

Well done to Adie and all of you for taking part in this bit of fun, I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed putting it all together. You have all been great sports.

Well done too to Neil's OH for coming so close to the correct item. I was almost tempted to award the win then, but thought it had to be 100% correct. However, I do think it was at that point that folk started thinking along the right lines. I had a good chuckle at some of the ideas .... makes the mind wonder :suspect:

Now I have to go an see how you have all been getting along with your projects.

Cheers guys and gals

Funky towel rail?

Great pic btw.

Hiya Mark, thank you for taking part ... as you will now know it is a toilet roll holder (for spare ones, that is).

I wondered what HBs are

I'm still wondering the same .... no doubt Kev will enlighten us in at some point

Hopefully the prize has not been won while I've been out doing my 'Twisted', as my other idea would have been like Adie, a toilet roll holder, but not the one on the wall, the one on the floor for holding the spares!

Hiya Neil,

The prize has been won, but I think it was your OH's idea that got the cogs working .... so for that I am awarding you both a special certificate too:

Well done all

Ah, thanks everybody :-)

After my first suggestion I'm surprised I was permitted to carry on playing LOL

And if I might add, it looks much better with a border LOL :-)

Thanks again...

Looking forward to week 22.. Almost half way through...

Well done Adie

So thats what its for Ive been poking the fire with ours :D

Great fun Dawn nice certificate

 Dave, hey if it works to stoke the fire, why not :D

It has been great fun and thanks for the comments about the certificate, I hope Adie and Neil like it too.

Well done Adie, my entry (although more accurate!) must have been late :(

My inlaws have the same one!

Hiya Neil,

Hey pal, I was so close to awarding you the win before I had to go out for the birthday celebration meal, and ran out of time. Adie just pipped you to the post, however because you were so close to start I felt I had to award you a special award for same (especially as you emphasised that it is the floor standing holder for spares). Thanks for being a great sport and well done to your OH too for her guess. I suppose your in-laws having the same one must have given her the idea.

Well done all

Cheers

Dawn :)
