Drawing a transparent box - Elements 6

Sorry to ask a really stupid question but I'm tearing my hair out over something so simple (hopefully)

I am producing a mosaic of some of our wedding photos and have put 5 onto an A2 sized black background.

I've left a decent border around the edge especially to draw a thin white lined box around all the photos as a finishing touch.

I can draw the box which creates a seperate layer but it doesnt show on the final image when saved as jpeg.

Any help please?

Can you ask this with more detail in what you want Is it a line around each photo or one around the end full image.
The stroke tool is good for this

Just a box around the whole image.

Like 4 white lines, each running down the side of the canvas size.

I get it either with a fill covering each photo I have on it, or the line dissapears upon saving

Can't you draw a solid box the size you require, select the item, contract the selct for the thickness you require then delete the new selection?

Just use the retangular marquee to draw a box on a new blank layer, then edit/stroke the selection (leave it active) with whatever colour and thickness line you want.

Select the background layer. Then press CTRL A to select all. Next go to Edit and then Stroke and add a stroke of say 5 pixels on the inside using the pencil tool with white.

Save the image. Does that show?

Thankyou, if I read the instruction correct in the first place I would have been ok.

I was trying to do it using a rectangular tool rather than the rectangular marquee tool.
