DPOTY 2023 - Chat Thread

That was bloody quick David @wornish !
His one on there today is different from yesterdays, it was a tractor ploughing up a field now its a lane.
I thought once an entry was submitted it couldn't be changed?
  • Entries cannot be changed once submitted. However, if you find that Flickr etc over sharpens your image or a similar issue, then you are free to re-upload the image again with small changes to make sure that it looks it’s best on the theme thread. To clarify, you cannot change your image for another one, but you can re-upload the same image again with minor amendments which affect the way it’s displayed.

The original one was a posting error and I deleted it. I made an exception in the circumstances to allow a fresh submission.

Well, we had some superb entries for March but a stonking entry from @Nostromo was clearly the massive favourite this time, a deserving winner. Some very good runners up. Updated stats for the challenge are here:

So the top of the leader board has changed at a stroke, demonstrating that a great entry in one month can turn things around markedly, so keep shooting and entering submissions, everybody has the same chances and there are no prizes except the satisfaction of having participated.

Just Checked the poll and I got 4 votes this month which is not on the spreadsheet.

Pete

Thanks for pointing that out, updated sheet has been inserted in place of the faulty one. There was another error I corrected too.

Sorry been AWOL due to work and my mother being in hospital.

Picked up my camera for the first time in a while yesterday so will get my bum into gear again.

Will be catching up on my 52 also tomorrow (a week behind but got last week's and this week's sorted just need to edit them).

I have something already for rural but I'm going to hold fire and see if I can get something else / better.

Adam

Happy as I am with my submission to April's theme of rural, I really missed a trick just now. A tractor went past my house here in rural Cornwall. So what, you say? Well, it was decorated with a yellow Easter Bunny...the one behind that had balloons, then....

...forty tractors later, the last tractor in the procession passed my house. A telephoto shot from the top of the hill along the whole line would have made an impressive sight. One that got away :headbang:

I've really struggled with this one, at least partly because I live in a very rural setting and it's hard to see that through the eyes of others. So I cheated a little and used France instead, on a dark and quite cold April evening at the top of the village. Mono felt 'right' and I popped on a copper toner to give a sense of connection with the soil and the decay of age.

I've struggled with this one too, lacking imagination and super busy to get out much. At least four months and four challenges complete.

I have also struggled, I had ideas of what I wanted to shoot but wasn't able to get out to them. Fortunately, I had a backup shot in the bag. I'm hoping that "Urban" will be easier for me, as I work and live in cities.

Urban will be quite difficult for me as I live in the country and will have to make a special trip into the city as a couple of local bungalows doesn't really make a conurbation.

Sorry folks, life isn't playing nicely and I missed my April upload (I have the blinking image also which makes it worse).

Hey ho, will get something for Urban and pick it up from there. Sorry, just nothing I could do with everything going on in the background with my mother, etc.

It's only a bit of fun, don't be sorry, family comes first :)

Take care (y)

Cheers @Gav-canon. I know it isn't but I hate failing at things or not doing what I said would. Today I actually took my camera bag out and dusted it off. I haven't taken an actual image with a camera (bar the phone) for a while now, so need to get my backside into gear.

I missed my upload too. I actually had one ready to go.

I was really annoyed about missing it as it's there, done, edited and the works lol.

Just the way the cookie crumbles I guess.

I found rural fairly easy as I live in the a**e end of nowhere. I'm going to struggle with urban though.

Kind of the same here. I live 2 minutes from the countryside. We went to Norwich city at the weekend. Nothing inspired me though. But I do have a cunning plan.....

Well done @LeeRatters for scoring best in April's "Rural" challenge. Clearly most popular right from the start of voting.
It has moved the leader board a bit, and there were some really good images that failed to score or score well, the competition was fierce last month.
I can see that some people are really getting into their stride now (@LeeRatters @Norkie but there's more to do for some of us! It would be good to see a few more of the early entrants back in the challenge though?

The summary is as follows:

Well done Lee, great image ;)

Well done Lee, great image ;)

Well done @LeeRatters Lovely image (y)

Well done @LeeRatters great photo.

Thank you everyone :)

Last year i entered the FPOTY and I managed the first two (maybe 3) months.

This year I've entered the FPOTY & the DPOTY and so far I have a 100% entry record. That's probably a more important thing than 'winning' a round :)

I used to do the 52, but I found it put too much pressure on me to post an image and comment on others images. So this once a month and no commenting is much more relaxing and enjoyable.

I completed the 52 once and I feel confident about this year's as I have really got back into photography (not that I ever left, but it waxed and waned a bit). The 52 challenge and this challenge do exactly what they say on the tin and challenge me, keep me thinking about themes and technicalities -- and GAS! On the last item, I am trying to get the most out of my existing cameras with aspirations for a D850 at some point in the future but only if I can really say I need it (and who can really say that unless their existing camera breaks?).
