Hi
My computer recently suffered a complete failure and after repair the Windows Scanner and Camera wizard will not recognise rhe camera. Unfortunately I cannot find the original disc to install it, and cannot make sense of the Kodak website. The camera is a Kodak M863, my system XP with all the service packs and updates. Any ideas for a silver surfer gratefully accepted!

hi Neil
Tried that.installation stops about three quarters of the way through saying there is a problem try again but trying again gets to the same hold up!

Complete message reads........
Kodak Easyshare unable to complete this task Error Code
1935x17x4252799284x

Have made another discovery..have just tried installing friends Easyshare disk and get similar message..does my computer not like Kodak for some reason?
Is there possibly a place in there where I can check 'banned' or unacceptable programs?

Did the Microsoft.Net Framework repair and this led me also to the latest Kodak software download still stops as before with same error number.

Any reason you can't just remove the card from the camera and stick it in a usb card reader?

No reason at all........it's just that I had the program in there before the computer problem and am used to the Easyshare system. also I bother about wear and tear on the cards and the camera socket. Finally there is clearly something wrong with the computer and I would appreciate any ideas from anyone who has come across the fault.
Many thanks.

I also download from my camera and usually find it fairly simple - even if a bit slow.

Are you using the advanced option from within the scanner and camera wizard?

But as a first step I would remove the card and try reading it in case it's the card which is at fault.

.

Peter the problem is the computer won't complete the installation of the Kodak Easyshare program.
The Windows Camera and scanner wizard just gets halfway thro' downloading from camera then says the camera isn't connected .it doesn't seemto recognise the camera which is why I have been trying to install the Kodak program.
I have tried using just the card via a card reader and that works OK so assume the card is OK.
Just been talking to a friend down the road who says that Kodak programs have an inbuilt 'virus/security ' problem...anyone heard of that?

I take it you are not trying to install over the old Kodak program ?

Nonsense.

Try using Revo Uninstaller to remove any remnants of the Kodak Program.
http://www.revouninstaller.com/

As the program isn't installed, you will have to use the advanced search method to search for any remnants if it doesn't appear on the installed programs list. Be careful which registry items to remove, if you are unsure post up a screenshot here.

After you've run that, I would try installing again. It's possible there is a remnant on the machine that is causing problems.

Did the Windows Scanner and Camera wizard previously detect your camera before the failure? Do you know what was done to your computer to repair it? - Was it completely reformatted, or another method?

Just suggesting a couple of obvious things here which may or may not be applicable.

Have you tried a different USB port - pref one at the back of the pc? I frequently encounter items which refuse to be recognised when plugged in to a front usb port but are ok round the back.

A different usb cable? Sometimes one cable can stop working or become erratic and unreliable.

Thanks to Mister E and someguy
MisterE..already tried othe USBs.all at rear anyway, only have one camera/USB lead.
Someguy..installed the Revo, cannot understand the resulting list but as a novice I do not know how to get a screenshot,or even post it if I hd one, would appreciate guidance here.
Windows scanner CAMERA WIZRD WAS ok BEFORE ,Computer was totally reformatted.do not have the XP disk.
