HI THERE - I am able to download this for free on my Mac and I was wondering what the feeling was? I use my Mac mostly for photography, of course! Thanks for looking.

It was forced for me as a new Mac, but I preferred the look to Mavericks, specially the Dock, and it seems to run fine.

Thanks Ok... So nobody has had any issues then?

You need to make sure essential software will work under the new OS. Canon software may be problematical at the moment . Some work and others don't. There are some workarounds but check first. Certainly EOS utility and the WiFi connection software don't. Lightroom, and Photoshop seem fine as does a lot of other software.

I have an Old MacBook Pro I used to test out OS.10.10. Unfortunately I didn't have the Canon software loaded. So it got overlooked. Have to wait for Canon to get round to upgrading ( No date) . However it's not a major problem

Just check any older software. I've not had any problems except for time machine not working 100%, but there is a work around and hopefully they'll fix it soon.

I only recently updated to Yosemite from Mavericks. No problems and everything runs a wee bit quicker. The OS font is a bit small but otherwise I like it already.

Aperture 3.6 works well and so does the Adobe CS6 suite. I don't like Canon's DPP so that's been uninstalled. I don't have Lightroom.

Make sure you update Apple's RAW Camera Compatibility file.

I've downloaded it and use PS6, LR5 and Aperture. To be honest I can't see any difference and have no idea what all the hype was all about !

I had all sorts of problems with email after moving to Yosemite but (a) they seem to have gone away after a recent update, (b) they could well have been related to my company's IT incompetence rather than the OS or (c) I had probably done something stupid

well, just installed it. Apart from the fact it has apparently damaged my mail index [looking at that now] it looks like Apple took their inspiration from Windows...

95

Seems they have have managed to take a GUI back by about 20 years, well done chaps.

....If your internet provider is TalkTalk they have been having widespread email problems for several days. They are aware of and are fixing the problem. Mine got fixed today.

Resisted as I've got an ancient graphire tablet which was last supported in lion...it's ok ish in Mavericks apart from the random missing pointer thing which started late in mountain lion. Not risking Yosemite til I buy a newer one. Probably...did Mavericks on a whim with no prep and it was fine. Not sure I'll be lucky a second time.

My macbook pro is working fine with mavericks so I don't see the point of changing
especially as I use the canon software as well as lightroom and I assume that I would have to reinstall the software
if it's not broke leave it well alone:D

If you upgrade, you don't need to reinstall anything.

Yep, shouldn't need anything reinstalling, only thing I had to do was upgrade printer drivers which it told me about as I was going through installation.

Still loathe the look, but in fairness, so far it looks like the wifi issues I had been having are now working, but will still leave another 3 or 4 days before doing the two laptops.

A really irritating little feature is in Mac mail, they have changed the style of all the icons and the archive and trash icon, next to each other, are also similar and I keep hitting archive instead of trash :banghead: I KNOW, its a silly thing but its almost become a nervous twitch now.

Control + Click on the toolbar, click customise and insert a space or adjust to your preference.

Thanks I didn't realise that:)
may give it a go got to check thst the canon image browser and program that uploads pictures from memory card will still work

I just did the upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite on my old macbook. The new OS seems a bit snappier & startup times are shorter. The not so good was that some applications didn't seem to have made it across (firefox for one - why?) without warning (Kindle was the only one flagged as incompatible) although Lightroom and on-one software were OK. System fonts aren't so good, and when bold they start to block up a bit, and the icons, dock etc look like the bad days of Linux before they got their design act together. It also forgot all passwords etc.

Since upgrading to Yosemite, my late 2012 iMac27 keeps dropping the Internet connection randomly. Worked fine on Mountain Lion and Mavericks..

No problems here. I have a Mid 2009 2.8GHz 15" 8GB ram MacBook Pro, and swapped out it's hard drive for a Crucial M500 SSD. Did a clean install, then reinstalled everything and copied back all data after deactivating software on the original HD. Just incase I cloned the old HD first as insurance. My email accounts are IMAP, so easy to setup again. I don't mind doing this once a year. For an old Mac it's fast and snappy. No problems with the Epson R2400 drivers. Even on the initial Yosemite release I didn't have any wi-fi issues.

Edit - I wouldn't install Yosemite on anything older than a Late 2008 MBP with 8GB, the first of the unibody's.

That's what mine is. AFAIK you cannot install it on anything older than 2008 due to graphics issues.

The new look is a bit kindergarden, but elsewhere things are certainly Ok. It is very good on smaller macbooks where you can now use web browser on full screen; safari is clearly improved, etc. LR and PS seem fine, and so is MS Office and a few other things I used. I had one odd crash on mac mini '12, but it is probably caused by Samsung printer app (POS).

You certainly need to upgrade if you want updates for apple productivity software like Pages or Keynote.

I did and it works as well (or as bad) as with 10.9

Did you not have any of the TRIM issues reported using a Crucial M500 SSD? I have a Samsung 840 SSD and wanted to update my Mid 2009 MacBook Pro but was worried that might not work as not an official Apple SSD?

Been running it for a few months. Really like the UI changes. But handoff with other OSX/iOS devices is brilliant. The way the tethering without connection works is good as well, and initiating calls and SMS messages from the desktop. I barely touch my phone when in the office.

A nice solid and quick release.

No problems to report here either. But I don't use iCloud or have any other iOS devices linked other than an iPad which is WiFi connected alongside my desktop to work as a small extra screen for weather apps and calendar etc.

Hi there.. Well, it seems the stuff I have should work ok.. I won't do it just yet. Not sure why... Thanks for taking the time. Merry Christmas

My other half just went ahead and installed it after being nagged. Now I have a list of things to 'fix'. Go Apple.

One bonus of Yosemite is that the charging bug introduced with Mountain Lion has been fixed. With ML the battery would charge OK at first, getting slower and slower the fuller it became and taking several days to reach 100%. This wasn't fixed in Mavericks, but under Yosemite it's suddenly back to being as it was with Leopard - fully charged in less than 4 hours. I'm glad it's sorted, but it should never have been a problem in the first place (and this issue was not unique to my Macbook).

We're off for a week skiing and visiting our son working in the French Alps next week, so I'll be taking the old Macbook as my 'disposable' connection to work.

Running smoothly for me. A few minor niggles... like synced iPhone, iPad and Macbook ringing with incoming calls.

Still running smoothly for me too but I don't use iCloud or network iOS devices anyway.

I have got used to the smaller font size and it's a much more legible font than previous OS anyway.

I also rather like the smart translucence too - I stream some of my photographs as my desktop image and consequently the colours change.

Running without a hitch on a Macbook Pro and an iMac, both a few years old and both maxed out with RAM.

Absolutely fine here.
