I am just about to change job and will be taking a hit on my salary so not as much disposable income however better job, more time at home nice location by the sea. I want to get a 70-200mm 2.8 but can't afford the Canon so am thinking about downgrading my Canon 17-55mm 2.8 to get a Tamron 17-50 non VC 2.8 and a Sigma 70-200mm 2.8.

Am I being silly or can I still expect decent results?

Thanks

Matt

Hi,have used both when i was a canon user , the tamron is a cracking lens the equal of the canon for much less cash , and the siggy ,it depends which one you go for (non macro slightly better IQ imo) ,both great performers though :thumbs:Will you get decent results from these two ? .. Definitely

Thanks for the reply, I was looking at the non macro Sigma as I have also read that it has slightly better IQ.

Matt

You could get the Canon 70-200 f/4 which is a bit cheaper than the Sigma. Yes you lose a stop of light but it's lighter and cheaper. I'm considering going for it myself if I decide I don't need the f/2.8.

I have those exact lenses, Tamron 17-50 (non VC) & the Sigma 70-200 (non DG, non Macro) on my 50D, I'll dig out some shots for you when I get home tonight if you like. I'm sure you wont be disappointed with either of them.

I posted these before in another thread, from the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 APO HSM 200mm, f2.8 ISO 100. These are converted from raw with no sharpening at all. I dont have many other images from this lens as I've not used it much yet.

From the Tamron this is at f5.6 ISO 100 (this has had some PP)

Would you like more sample images? I can get more done for you over the weekend if that helps.

Sam they are great, thanks very much, is there any chance of a hand held Tamron 17-50 at f2.8?

Thanks very much for your help.

You are welcome, I'll have a look, I'm sure I have plenty at f2.8, do you want people pictures or other subjects?

A portrait shot would be good aswell as sone random things if thats ok. Really impressed with the Sigma pics.

Thats is bl***dy sharp for a Sigma!!

I'm using the Tamron 17-50 and Sigma 70-200 combo too, and I'm really happy with them both

I'll have a look for some from the Tamron too, it's my most commonly used lens, so it's ridiculous that I can't find any!
