Double deck buses are an "invasion of privacy"

Daily Wail. I'm not even going to lower myself to read the link. Standard non-journalistic story.

theere is a video link where the parish councillor states the above re privacy, security and "you can't play with the children in the back garden"

Old story regurgitated, we had this in Swindon, sure I saw it about Tewkesbury. Don't people use net curtains any more? If bus passengers can see in then the neighbours can

No this is serious, it was a topic for discussion on Radio 2 lunchtime, the other day :D

Classic NIMBYism. Residents of a cul de sac in a certain town are objectig to the introduction of double deck busus stating such things as

Invasion of privacy
Invitation to burglars
Puts children and animals at risk

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...reet-complain-deck-bus-passengers-houses.html

HOW??

The bus driver is not at the top deck, surely that the bus driver of a double-decker have the same viewpoint at a bus driver of a single deck bus, therefore the risk to children and animals are the same be it a single decker or a double decker?

Passengers on the top deck though, not the driver.
Someone in those photos need to get their fence fixed, they've a broken post. Funny they've bought a house backing onto a road and am now complaining about traffic on that road.

the "issue" is not that of the driver but caused by passengers on the upper deck being able to see over fences and into windows. How this poses a threat to children and animals I am at a loss to understand as well

Apparently when these people moved in, they tried to make out the cl de sac was a private road as well

One of the responses is excellent:

I would like to raise a complaint about people in back gardens being able to see me as I travel on by bus. I feel that their houses should be compulsorily purchased and demolished to allow me privacy while in transit

Steve.

The impending bankruptcy of Greece and the fall out to UK economy, the up and coming strategic defence review, the cuts to the NHS, education etc etc is serious this is just total [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER] !

Only trouble I'm seeing here is middle class whingers not really wanting "the great unwashed", and their confounded public tranport, using their road at all.
Take away the busses and they'll just find something else to cry about.

I was responding to your daily wail comment, where you said

And I was making the point that it must be a real issue if it was reported by the BBC. ( :D )

But I bet if you had the great unwashed, various people of / with various inclinations,
staring into your bedroom it would be an issue for you.

I would assume that the local residence have more chance of getting a result on this,
than setting the Greek economy to rights though.
Make a "change" where you can, from tiny acorns and all that ;)

However the ( :D) should have given you a hint, that it was a tongue in cheek comment .

It always was a bus route, but a single decker, they are bitching about the other deck being added,
because of increased demand, but it it would seems that there is no increase in demand, according to the interviewee's
on the Jeremy Vine phone in.
The problems that face residence on an affluent street in Worcester really don't bare thinking about :D

I've just read the article and, tbh, I don't see any problem in what some of the residents are saying. The value of their properties is irrelevant here but The Mail is good at printing such irrelevancies as a way to almost demonise people.

The routes were originally all single decker because thee houses' rear gardens backed on to the main road (seems reasonable to me and b****r all to do with how affluent the residents are). Now a bus company has decided they're going to do away with that and put on double deckers to cope with apparent increased demand from students. Can't say I'd be very please at the thought of sitting out in my back garden in the summer with a load of people looking out of bus windows at me.

It did, perhaps I should have added a similar ;) too !

However, I think the reality is though is that passengers on busses are going to be too busy texting, sleeping etc etc to really pay any attention in to what's happening 'in that house' in the 5 to 10 seconds that the bus momentarily passes it. It really is a non-issue. It's a public road, a bus is entitled to be there. House owners have a choice, close the blinds / curtains or sell up and move away. Yes it will bother some people, would it bother me, no I've lived in the city on a busy road. It's all about how an individual responds to change. All I was saying so there are more important issues going on in the world and just around the corner and on our own doorstep.

I think though that the residents might be overestimating how much the bus patrons give a rat's about what they're doing in their gardens.

I agree, and that was another point that came out of the discussion.
But of course as you also said, people will moan about "change" for moan' s sake :D

I never get that either, put nets / blinds up if it bothers them .
Its certainly the norm around here anyway.

Imagine the outrage. Ford focus owning family moves next door when the previous owners had a Mercedes...
Not an outrage at all, they've just gained a better class of neighbour. ;)

Buses are great these days most have free wifi now just think how much TP time you could use ! / that's better than goofing into someone's garden !

I've not read the article, and feel I'm about to get slaughtered but here goes....

So I live on a main road, with double buses outside regularly. I don't like net curtains etc but have shading on the glass 3/4 of the way up, but I like to be able to see the sky etc. Buses going past at speed fine, but when there is traffic and a bus is stuck outside for a period of time, and people are looking in, it's a bit odd. I'm fine with it as I bought the house on a main road, but I can understand why you would be unhappy about it if it was not happening already - it's not the same as neighbours across the road.

Maybe, maybe not but, if you're relaxing in your garden, it can make you feel a little uncomfortable if a double decker bus stops there. People do look out of windows on the top decks of buses, I'm sure some people go upstairs purely so they can have a nicer view during their journey.

I guess if I regularly relaxed in the nude in my back garden I might feel self conscious perhaps, but otherwise I'm not sure I'd really care particularly.

just read the story and if councillor brenda wheeler decides to sunbathe nude in her garden that should put a stop to the double deckers with immediate effect ,in fact if she as much as looked out of a window it would put me off bus travel for life

Well, you might :-)

I'm sorry I Googled that name now :(

Some do obviously

Well, you might :)

I freely confess that I used to go upstairs on buses where possible because the view was nicer, nothing wrong with that. :)
