Double clicking a word highlights the trailing space

I know this is not a new issue, but I cannot find any sort of solution online except mac, chrome or firefox specific solutions.

On a web site or in MS word or a lot of other applications, when you double on a word to highlight it, I find it will always highlight the trailing space. This is ver annoying when copy / pasting to search for specific characters that will not always be followed by a space.

A work around for this would be to hold shift and press the left arrow before copying, but it seems a bit unneccesary. Has any ever actually needed this extra space thats is highlighted by default?? I know I havent.

Does anyone know if there is a setting in Windows (XP or 7) that allows double click selection with the word only and not the extra space?? :bang:
 
Win 7 here and only highlights characters for me.
 
This seems very odd. I certainly haven't changed any settings, but my computer knowledge is, let's say, limited. Can anyone shed on light on this?
 
Did a google search on your thread title.

Throws up lots of programs that can cause this.
 
It's the default windows behaviour I think. It's so if you highlight and delete a word, you only have a single keystroke. Also, if you highlight it to move it, you can drop it in between any two words and it will add the extra space needed.

IMHO, it's generally "the right" thing to do.
 
Thought I knew a lot of windows shortcuts but didn't know this one :)

Left-click at the beginning (or end) of your desired selection, keep left mouse button down and drag to highlight the area you want highlighted. Don't need to touch the keyboard at all ;)

im thinking of our CMS page that if you do that the highlight slips the wrong side of the html tags.. :D
 
Never knew about double clicking a word to highlight it before.

Tried it with Win7 and it definitely highlights the trailing space too.

I always highlight a word or passage by Andy's method.
 
Or left click at the start, hold shift and click end of selection.
For those who didn't know the double-click method, did you know the triple-click method for selecting a section (line or paragraph depending on context)?
