hi folks...me and my good lady will be staying in rockley park at the end of sept/beginning of october for 5 days.whilst there i will be looking for locations to shoot in the area...already have durdle door and lulworth cove on my wish list, but i would appreciate it if you wonderful TP'ers could point me in the direction of a few more places i could go to....:rules:

thanks folks

Ahh it's a beautiful place. I am lucky to live in Dorset.

Anywhere along the 'Jurassic Coast'. Kimmeridge, St Aldhelms Head, Swyre, Portland Bill, Portland Heights to Chesil,

In land Abbotsbury, Hardy's Monument, Bulbarrow, Golds Hill Shaftesbury, Milton Abbas etc. etc.

Explore Purbeck also... Nine Barrow Down, Corfe Castle.

Some Dorset Flickr Groups to give you some inspiration:

Dorset, Another Dorset, Purbeck, Jurassic Coast

thanks both,it would seem as if that there are more locations than the time i have there....will just have to decide where to go

Yes and come back and do the other stuff next time, and the time after that, and the time after that.... :)

I've just had a visit to Compton Acres which has some good photo opportunities if you like formal gardens.

i would love to see a shot of port land bill. i live in poole and never seem to have the time to go there. i will make it on my list of things to do ***.

the new forest is good to.

Sept/early Oct is a great time to visit this area. It shouldn't be as busy as high summer and there's so much variety you'll be able to find places to shoot in most weathers.

If autumn is early the New Forest will look fantastic. Could also add Lymington, Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst for extra pics and watering holes. :)

If you don't mind a little driving, I suggest Kingston Lacy and a look around Shaftesbury is a must and Swanage is good too, great fish and chip dinner to be had there. ;)

I live in bournemouth, worth getting down the seafront get some shots of the pier :)

Basically anywhere on the purbecks is awesome. Was thinking about going to compton acres this weekend actually. Only got my camera bits together in the last week (my first camera ever not counting disposables) so looking for some photo opportunities :P

Poole Quay probably worth a trip as well, you got 'old poole' which is the old maritime buildings etc.

Get a trip to brownsea island, might see some red squirrels!

only 2 weeks away now..and i'm getting exited :woot:

anyone up for a meet?

I work weekdays, and am busy for the next 2 weekends!!!

When are you down here exactly? I could be persuaded to do an evening thing - sunset at Kimmeridge or Durdle Door perhaps?

i'm down in rockley park from the 29th sept-3rd oct(monday-friday), and would be up for a sunset shoot at kimmeridge or durdle door, which is on my "must do" list..weather permitting

Back bar of the Hamworthy Inn and yell out "All bootneck's are fairies" - plenty of action pics then. :D

Lol! Extreme sports eh!

A word of warning - the Sandbanks chain ferry will be out of operation from 21st Sept. So a trip to Swanage/Purbecks will have to detour through Wareham and Corfe Castle (can't be bad!). :)

Oh, and there's a nice fish and chip shop quite close to Rockley Park - Daniel's.

I'm in Dorset on the Isle of Purbeck and the weather's lovely today!

Not sure about rules for photography inside, but the Tank Museum at Bovington (where I live :D) is awesome and just up the road is Clouds Hill, where T.E.Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) lived. Monkey world is just round the corner, and Swanage is a half hour drive away with Corfe Castle en route. There's plenty to see and shoot round here. As already mentioned you've got places on the coast like Kimmeridge (was there only 2 days ago togging actually), Lulworth Cove, Lulworth Castle, and if it's open there's Tyneham too, the abandonned village that was evacuated for training purposes during WWII. Just google 'things to do in Dorset' and you'll find bags of things just dying to have a camera pointed at them.

The drive from Wareham down to Swanage through Corfe Castle, Harman's Cross etc is beautiful on a nice day, and taking any number of little back roads will fire you deep into the countryside, or high up on coast roads with stunning views.

ALSO! Biker night (Tuesday) on Poole quay would be great togging if you like your motor bikes. Not sure if it's on this time of year though, I'm not a biker

I once took a cracking shot of Chesil Beach and Portland - From the 747 flying to the states. I got the whole beach and Island in one shot, and a bit of the window frame. Lost the picture now though, after moving to many times.

Portland is another fair option, and I think it's even better on an overcast day, you can get really dramtic pictures of Ol' Bill (the lighthouse).

Weymouth's not bad if you like your 'traditional' British seaside town.

cheers chris...i've been to weymouth several times in the past(about 2 years ago last time)but wasn't doing photography then,so may pay it a visit.we also went out on portland for the day which i may do again.i'll also have to fit in things my wife wants to do/see over the 5 days there, but i'm sure i can sneak the camera with me without her noticing

hey guys, just got back from dorset...a wonderful place in my opinion.the weather was great, with the only bad day being tuesday..vert windy and dull so took the train from corfe to swanage for lunch, and then back.took a drive over to arne to take a look with a view to going there if the weather improved.wednesday was better,so did a little shopping in the morning to keep the wife happy, then had lunch before heading for durdle door to take some shots..i hope they they turn out okay ;).friday was over to bournemouth, again for the wife to shop, then back to poole for lunch before going to arne reserve, then onto kimmeridge bay last night.

a big thanks to all that helped/suggested places for us to go,and i'll certainly be going back there as it's a wonderful place with so much to see/shoot...you locals are truly blessed ;)

also practically lived on fish and chips ,with daniels fish and chips in hamworthy being the best i had there:thumbs:.fantastic views from the top of creech hill over kimmeridge too...

Glad you had a nice time. The weather wasn't too bad this week.
