What an idiot I am. Today whilst togging a nice derelict jetty on Lake Wakatipu I managed to knock over my tripod lens first on to the stoney shoreline, nice big chip out of me B+W MRC polariser. b****r!

That sucks matey. But look on the bright side, atleast it's a nice big chip out of your poloriser, and not your lens.

Arghhh :( Sorry to hear that mate. I hope the lens itself is ok!

Ouch!!

I've wrecked enough filters through daftness to really feel your pain. :(

Although I only looked in this thread as thought the thread title was about me. ;)

Cheers for the sympathy guys, the lens and camera are fine, the photos are not quite as good as I hoped but I think I might be able to make something from them. Ah well its only a filter!

Your not an idiot, mistakes happen, that sucks, and sorry to hear it.

Just out of curiosity, why have you posted this? Im curious if you wanted sympathy or advice or what. Don't jump to conclusions and take this as an attack, just curious...

Moral of the story.......set your tripod up correctly ;)

If one of the legs was orientated to the front, the camera can't fall forwards.

Hope it's OK

Yep, like death & taxes - gonna happen. Was at a car rally a couple of weekends ago. Got talking to another tog & he showed me the absolute carnage that used to be his Canon 400mm. How'd he do it?.....bent down to tie his shoe lace. Front of the lens bounced off the tarmac. Now that is stupidity of the highest order.
