I had a friend suggestion yesterday from Face Book. It said i had mutal friends (my daughter and her cousin and someone else). I didnt recognise the name.... Same surname as my ex-wifes new hubby..... Doh

Then it suggested my ex-wife as a friend. double DOH !

We parted on good terms but really I really don't think so.......

No I hate it, along with any other social networking crap. Cliquey, rubbish.

Sorry, I'm down today. But honestly...

Thats the one thing i hate about facebook is friend suggestions! Seeing that "certain person's" face popping up every day is highly annoying!

you can block them you know

Mafia Wars is rather addictive though.

And you can see photo's of my arse if you are my friend. :)

I had a laugh the other day, my Dad's mate fiance was wished happy birthday by his ex wife

Honestly? It's starting to annoy me!
Oh s*1t.... Head for the hills guys !!! ...

I really dont like facebook because its far too personal for certain things. For one, some of my friends have placed their mobile numbers on there. Yes they are idiots but facebook gives them the option to. Things like that shouldn't be avaliable on networking sites, yet these people end up in the newspapers as victims of cyber bullying and prank calls, well duh.

Secondly you can find out anything about anyone on facebook, especially those who want to trace someone, they can find out their habits, their friends, what they like doing etc... oh and to top it all you can even find out what someones mothers maiden name was if you check the right friends and family details on profiles. Just the right amount of stuff for bank security questions and identity thieves. This is why i limit what i put on my profile and who sees what on my profile.

I joined facebook about 3 years ago to view a link someone posted on a forum, wasn't worth the bother, I didn't go near it again until a few weeks ago, logged in and there's about 100 people who want to be my friend, I don't get it at all, why are people so fascinated with sharing their private lives

Actually I'm glad I read this thread, it reminded me to do something

I'm sure there must be a facebook group to discuss this but all these groups
that start up for like 'petrol/diesel prices', 'staying up late', 'Fb against blue
doors group' etc etc etc..........

Has any of them ever made the slightest difference ?, i mean just one would do...

You know those thousands of bikers that did a charity ride through Wootton Basset last Sundayand raised a great deal of money for a charity supporting soliders killed and injured in Afghanistan? That started on facebook.

Whether or not it "made a difference" is left to the reader to judge.

A few groups have made a difference.

I'm currently trying to push an awareness event/day on facebook ATM (phrased as a coffee morning but frankly all we're asking is that on that day, to someone, you day something about a condition called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy.)

well i like it most of the time. helps me keep in touch with friends all over the place. and for other reasons but agree at times it is annoying.. and as for the ****ing games on there and Mafia wars being one of them how annoying. And i don't want to take part in the farm games.

I kind of love it and hate it in equal measure.
It's great for keeping in casual contact with friends and ex-colleagues who tend to be spread around the country.
However, status updates do tend to degenerate into some kind of online willy-waving contest when people announce newly purchased cars/houses/toys etc...
Also the constant stream of baby updates from my female friends gets a bit wearing after a while! I don't really care if junior has a tummy bug, as long as I'm not expected to do anything about it!

As for the privacy implications, well they only really apply if you've never visited your privacy settings. Unless I've accepted you as a friend, you can see nothing about me other than my name and which region I live in. Try hacking my bank account with that!
In fact, you can get exactly those details from my TP profile.

you think thats bad, you should check out the big fat book that BT send you every year. It even has names, addresses and phone numbers! Whatever will they think of next?

I just joined the other day and didn't realise I knew so many foreign women who only wore underwear

Facebook is ace. Can keep up to date with people. Arrange stuff with mates. Send traffic to my website. All sorts. Great tool if you use it correctly :)

Re: the groups making a difference... You remember how Rage Against The Machine made the christmas number one? It was a facebook group that started it!

Haha

I quite like having FB friends I know - but who the F*** are all these people? Go away!

i didnt realise you got mobile numbers in there oh well. Nobody wastes time going through a phone book to find someone they want to prank call them when they have to sift through about 20 smiths or 100 jones's then have to hope they have the right address for them. wth facebook you know who it is you have their face on there and their mobile number = easy target

I don't know why so many photographers hate people so very much?!?!?!
We're a scary yet rare breed, photographers. Socially inept and spending many hours of their lives with a black box pressed up against their faces. In the olden days we used to lock ourselves away in a room with no lights on, for hours on end. Now we spend hours on end staring at images on a screen, with very little difference and often an hour or so staring at the same image... :p

You know who it is because they're your friends, and the likelihood is they already have your mobile number. You don't need to recognise them from their photo, as they are your mates.

If one is the sort of person that accepts friend requests from any Tom, Dick, or Harry, then frankly they deserve to be prank called. Teach 'em a lesson.

If you write an email to their support address asking to be deleted they will wipe you from it forever. Its what I did about 3 months after joining!

Dont see facebook as being much different to most forums tbh. Except you may know most people on your facebook account. Can be very usefull for networking for business etc. Depends on what you want from it.
