Don't shoot lasers!!!!

Been known for a fair while that without looking at the link. That`s why there is careful placement of film crews etc to avoid damage to other recording equipment

I bet he`d find it hard to sue as there`s probably something on the ticket saying no photography or certainly no professional type gear

i dont think lazers would damage my nikon

It was an unlucky one - I very much doubt that they could sue the organisers. Probably a nasty combination of focal length, focus distance and aperture - remember, if they were using a relatively large aperture then they were collecting a much larger portion of the laser light than would be passed by the iris of a human eye. There's a reason that one class of lasers is considered safe for exposure to the naked eye, but not to exposure through optical instruments.

Yeah, but that's not to say it's class 1. You can use higher classes in public displays if the beam diverges enough before it reaches the public. But that might not be enough to protect the sensor in a camera with an f2.8 lens in front of it.
