I sometimes think Guwernsey is just one big ants nest, had three houses over here and everyone of them seems to have an ant problem.

I find that boiling water seems to do the trick, find the nest, open it up a little and pour.

Had one in the garden of the house I live in now, stood at the kitchen sink one evening and all I could see was hundreds of things flying up from below the window, went outside to see these things coming out of a hole in the flower bed, flying ants, so a big pan of boiling water and a kettle full just to make sure and never had a problem since.

Glad it worked for you Spike :thumbs: As long as you hit the Queen it usually works,
but its not easy as she is well protected in her subterranean fortress.
All the nests in a given location "fly" within a 24 hour period (then its done)
Mate on the wing, the females lose their wings, when they settle.
And become new Queens.
The males die.

Don't waste your money on "plastic owls" they are useless.

If its just one small area pigeon spikes may work, but unless you can cover all the area it generaly just moves the problem.
Netting is another possibility, but its expensive.

Ive never used the fire gel (same link) its a fairly new product on the market.

Some success may be had with (if you can get up there) hanging blank CD's
in pairs from a pole, so they move and catch the sunlight (when we get any again)
They look like a "flash of predator eyes"
Depending on the Species, they may or may not be protected.

Shoot a couple if possible and hang them up by one wing (that'll probably **** your neighbours off though.)

A "kite on a pole" may help, but all these things have to be above roof height
to be of any effect.

Failing that as Darren said a bucket of super glue :D

And super glue as it slows the buggers down enough to shoot them without wasting bullets :thumbs:

Some "things" are on what is called a general licence, "issued" by DEFRA
(Natural England or what ever they call themselves these days)
And if you can show good reason, usually crop damage, personal / avaition
safety, public health issues etc they can be culled withought fear or retributon.
That of course assumes that you don't break any laws in the process,
such as discharging a firearm in a public place ;)

true but not all gulls (isnt it LBB, GBB and maybe herring) so barry needs to be sure what he's shooting at

Indeed but I have already said that in post #37

If he is in Scotland different rules apply ie the Herring gull is fair game there
but not here.
