At a gig tonight and decided to use TV mode instead of my normal AV mode. Used 1600/1/125 for the first set and it worked fine. A lot of shots had a lot more DOF because it occasionally got up to F4.
THe second set I put it up to 1/180 and reduced ISO to 1250. Again worked well but when I reviewed the shots I noticed that the camera reduced down to 1.4 or reduced the speed in order still to get the shot. A couple were down to 1/45 and really good. Fantastic!! Now why didn't I know that?!

Any chance you could post up a couple of examples Duncan? It would be nice to see the difference on screen.

It only does this if you've got CFn16 set to 1.
 
and I thought TV mode was only for using down the Gay Village:)
 
Joking aside its really useful at gigs because of the very variable light. If the light is good then you get whatever speed you have set and good DOF. If it drops off then apeture drops until you reach 1.4 and then shutter speed reduces thereafter. Handy!
