weekly Don's 52 for 2022 - Catchup

I've noticed a few very nice images that have been "artistically tweaked", so I thought that I would have a play with No 4 above. This has been done using the Artistic filters in G'MIC (a free add-on for Gimp or Affinity). I think that I like it!

That is very cool Donal, very surreal. I like it a lot.

Those are beautiful trees. How lucky you are. They are all lovely shots.

I love the one you have chosen with the light picking out the branches and the cormorant is a real bonus. Very nice!

Blimey! How big is your garden???? :)
A lovely shot though, and all those images are good.

I seem to have completed my challenge with a couple of days to spare! This feels like progress.

I like them all, and I have more that I am also happy with.
I'm going to go with 2). 6) was a very close second.
The funny thing is that I wasn't able to think of anything like these when the challenge was "Trees".

It isn't that huge. The chosen tree has branches that are only a couple of feet from the house.

Yes 2 and 6 are the ones.
Nice to see natural holes (instead of man made).

Trees - The first image has so many shapes I don't think I would ever tire of looking at it.

Hole - That's an impressive set of images, I would to see number 6 with more DOF just to get more detail in the second hole. I do like number 1 but personally think it would benefit from a wider view to show more of the area above it.

Thank you!

I've sharpened up the background a bit (he said lying through his teeth) ;)

All solid shots Donal, I think that #1 and #6 are most appealing to me. I like the blurred background in #6 better. It makes your subject more impactful.

A good set of images. When I first glanced I thought your chosen shot looked like an elephant (must go to specsavers)! It makes an interesting composition.

I really like no. 1 and no. 2 makes me think of an elephant or rhino. All quite fascinating and yes it is funny how it didn't occur to you for trees. It wouldn't have me either!
I love the little duckling too with his nostril holes, if that's what they're called ha ha!

That's a great set of images Donal. Difficult to pick a favourite for me.

Thank you for all the comments.

I also saw all sorts of shapes in the trees. The funny thing is that the most pronounced shape that I saw was in photo no. 2. In the viewfinder It looked like a Roman statue with a missing arm and leg broken off at the knee. I could barely see it at all when I got it onto the computer screen.

I've struggled this week, but that is why I joined the "52".

1) I liked the "mountainous" look in these clouds.

2) View from upstairs window. Taken in desperation as I thought that I wouldn't get to see a sunrise or sunset.

3)Heron looking at the sunset.

I'll go with 1)

I agree with you about #1 - great cloud formation.

Your chosen shot is very good Donal, I really like the rose tones in the clouds. I laughed when reading your comment about the heron.

Yes, a bit tongue in cheek, that one.

I don't know Donal. They're all good but I think it's #3 for me, such a lovely use of depth of field.

I’ve set Donal. Like your chosen one but like Bill above, love the fishing one!

Love the colours and shades in the one you’ve chosen. Great atmosphere to it.

The one you've chosen is a beautiful spring/summer shot.
Like the others I would have gone for the fishing reels.
Good set though.

Nice set - the Kayak for me too.

Beautiful shot with the dappled light on the spring greens.

Thank you all for your comments. They really are incredibly helpful for someone like me who is trying to learn about "artistic" photography.

I didn't write any commentary this week because I really hadn't a clue which one to choose. The fishing rods was my favourite, but I was worried that it was a bit too quirky.

Quirky is good, I think the rods would have been my chosen shot but the Kayak is my favourite, not done it for years, where was it taken? We use to go on the river Wye Kayak half way stop off at the pub for luch and carry on after. :)

It was taken on the Basingstoke Canal, just a few miles from where it joins the river Wey. No 1 was taken from just a few yards away where the canal widens out into Mytchett Lake. It's a lovely spot, perfect for practicing birds in flight, and also for observing the wildlife in general.

What a week. There are parallels absolutely everywhere. This has been a great exercise for those of us who struggle with their observation kills!

1) I have a little break on this seat, a few evenings a week. It's a lovely spot with lots of wildlife. I really should have planned this shot to have some more birds in it - but hey-ho.

2) A little bridge.

3) An Egyptian Goose, with one of her youngsters - who is growing at an incredible rate. Its legs are parallel.

4) Some reflections that have parralel shapes.

I am at a complete loss as to which one to choose!!
3 is probably the most unusual photo for me, so that is the one.

All great shots Donal, but #4 is the one for me. I really like the long drawn-out reflections running parallel to each other.

I like the bench shot Donal - just looks like such a peaceful place to rest awhile....

I prefer the bridge to the bench shot, but the other 2 are super shots as well. I feel the reflections would be the one I pick.

It is one of many beautiful spots that we have discovered as a result of the Covid lockdowns and my decision to try to take photography seriously. There are a load of lakes and nature reserves within 15 minutes of home.

Late again.[sigh]
Let's see if a couple of extra days off make any difference!

1) 4 metal girders and some geese. To really make it on theme. there is a metal framed chair. I like quirky stuff.

2)
When I saw this yesterday, I really felt that I had my shot for this week. A great big metal fence with the most magficent double rainbow that I have ever seen. It hasn't quite come out as well as I hoped, although I do like it.

This was taken today as I left work. It is an Ethernet connector as used in difficult environments. I had a play with monochrome, and then added a single colour. I must say that I am very impressed with the effect. The result, in my mind at least, looks almost professional. I'll definitely try this technique again!

Number three is this week's entry.

I think that you made the right choice Donal, It's a strong image to my eye. What is the connector on top of? I can make out some writing but can't tell if it's a reflection of something else.

3 is your best one Donal.
it’s a very good shot and nicely converted to mono.

No3 is a belter :)
