Hi Donna, first time commenting here.

I quite like that overall and it's a nice scene. But I feel the tree is a bit too dominating and the foliage on the right is a bit distracting. I particularly like the brown and the blue colours in the image really complement each other.

Hi Donna - really like the feel of the scenic shot, plenty atmosphere. I might of been tempted to remove the stray fern leaf in the bottom right in PP but I'm a bit weird that way![emoji23]. I like the tree in there though[emoji4]

I feel the same. The tree adds some nice interest and impact to the image. But that ferns is really distracting for me. I like these atypical landscape style shots. Different from the norm. Well done!

Hi Donna

That's a really interesting scene for scenic. I like it. But, I think the thing which is taking away from the image a bit for me is the horizon cutting straight across the tree and its branches. It leaves me thinking there's too much going on, when there clearly isn't!

I'd be inclined to try getting a much lower POV so the horizon doesn't cut through the tree that high up (or at all). Perhaps getting closer with a wider angle, so you still get some of the scrub as foreground and also those reeds and the lovely smooth water which complements the sky well. You'd get less water, most likely (although perhaps not if you got closer?) but you could still keep the tree in the same sort of proportion...

Hard to work out if it would work... but if it's near by, you could look the next time you're passing?

There was only a tiny colour adjustment in the picture, my reasoning being that I had to go and the sky got even redder afterwards. It was so frustrating as we were dashing back to the car with my daughter saying "just don't look back Mum"

Hi Donna

Elegant - very good choice for the theme and I like the way you've composed it too. Only a small thing - the background looks a little rumpled to me - but you might have intended it that way :)

Love your companion image, I haven't seen a sunset like that in a few months! The colours are incredible, but it looks like there's a little too much magenta added as it has changed the colour of the water and the pebbles, giving them a purple cast. The dog looks purple too. Have you increased the colour in post processing or was that how it was? Great photo nevertheless and fits the theme perfectly.

Thanks for your comments. I have put in a comparison - left unprocessed, right with little edits (lightening up shadows, etc). The sky was true to the colour - absolutely gorgeous, and it didn't even show a hint of how lovely it was beforehand, but I was determined to get a 'companion' shot that evening regardless. The sky turned out to be an added bonus!!

Any colour adjustment in PP?

Thanks so much for all the comments. Here is a photo showing the comparison of the unprocessed (left) and processed (right). The sky was fantastic, but there was no pre-warning on how great it was going to be, but I was determined to go out to get my 'companions' shot regardless, so the sky ended up being as real added bonus.View attachment 30090

Your companions shot it superb no crit at all. Worthy of framing and hanging on a wall.

Elegant - first your link from the main thread is not working ( for me anyway)
Nice image I think you may even have got away with a tighter crop losing some of the chain but nice focus on the heart pendant.

Week 6 - Watery
The obvious would once again be the sea as I live in a seaside town, but am trying to do more than my normal landscape shots. So the best thinking time is in the shower...

(y) Link working

Nice idea works well maybe cropped the controls a bit to much but thats just me and its being really picky.
Another good shot. Still love your companions shot makes me smile every time i see it

Hi Donna

Fragile....I like that , the lighting makes it seem even more fragile , a hint of a shadow under the stalk & well placed in the frame

Watery....mono works nicely , good use of DOF (y) Just cropped a little top tight at the bottom

I like Watery :-)
At first I thought it was bubbles!

Hi Donna

Well, a cracking image for companions :) Sky is lovely (I'd have knocked the exposure comp down a stop or so more or used an ND grad if you have one?) but still a great backdrop to the subject. White balance does look a bit off to me, given the colour of the sea - maybe it really was that colour, but I think it'd be even stronger if the water looked slightly less purple. Thinking further, I actually think the foreground (water and subject) could do with an exposure lift - obviously you exposed for the sky, which meant the rest is technically underexposed (especially SOOC)... the effect of this is the perception of saturation is exaggerated because the tones are darker. If you lighted up the bottom 2/3 of the image by a stop or so I reckon that might in part fix the purple water? Beautiful picture regardless - really well done! (y)

Elegant: another cracker and very different. Like your DOF choice here and the lighting on the pendant is pretty well controlled, especially given it's sitting on your black surface with little space! I particularly like the texture of your surface - I love the fact it's not just a plain background and you can just make out the pattern in it. A super shot here (y)

Watery: yet another stonking image! Love the composition with the tiles and tap. Great DOF and lighting works well. Simple but very effective so another big thumbs up from me! (y)

hi Donna :)

bliss - love the shot and I can't see anything I'd change
scenic - the tree looks like it's meant to be the subject and it looks fine to me, not sure why anyone would want it removed :p
companions - again, me being contrary - I like the colour cast, it makes the foreground seem as warm as the sky, a lovely shot
elegant - very hard to get silver to look silver rather than grey and you've just about done it
fragile - another good one, the extra white of the shot adds to the frailty I think
watery - I dont mind the controls, maybe would have had them more in focus to bring out the shower aspect

:)

Hi Donna,

The B&W works really well for watery. Nice idea to goto something different too.

The companions shot is absolutely wonderful. so vibrant and a smashing companion feel to it. What a stunning sunset too. Excellent work :)

Watery - great take on theme, well done

Bold - again good shot and very bold colours on the wall

Bold....yep, bold in 2 ways. Bold colours and bold artist ;)

Hi Donna ...just had a catch up on your thread, Companions is a smashing shot, we had a very similar sky down in Cornwall a week or so ago so it could have been the same one....truly stunning and the perfect addition to your photo.
An unusual choice for Watery well done for thinking of that one, and spot on for Bold ....as Ruth says it captures the theme in two ways.

Watery ... sorry Donna, looked at this a dozen times and it still does nothing for me. o_O

Bold ... Love this, brilliant take on the theme .... good PoV, like the way you've got some light on his apprehensive face, but he's still a shady character. (y)

Hi, bold nice take on the theme though he does look a little sheepish, could look a little more like he is not bothered

Nice image Donna
but I do agree with Allen, he is looking a little sheepish ;)

Lovely, warm lighting and great take on the theme.

Yeah, he does look a little uncertain, but overall well taken.

Cheers.
