Yes
BSB is going ahead later this month but for those that dont know the infield is going to be closed the whole season! They have confirmed that in an email to me today.

Whats also a laugh is they are still charging full price to events!! :bang:

Im gutted, i wanted to go to Moto GP before they b****r off to Silverstone as ive never been to them (only seen Hoppers on his bike at brands a few years ago) but im not going when half the place and best viewing areas are closed off

Just thought id let those who didnt know/ realise the infield was gonna be closed the whole season

Probably because the infield is full of construction machinery and holes?

Yeah they did say before the work started that the infield this year would be off limits, has the circuit passed its MSA track inspection yet? last i heard it hadnt and still needed some work carried before any 4-wheeled racing could take place. It could be they only have a licence to hold 2 wheel events at the moment, as i heard a talks from more then one source that the BTCC was likely to called of.

Theres also a hearing on Tuesday i believe which if goes badly would mean reversing all the contruction work that has already been done.

I wanted to see the MotoGP this year but have decided better against it, with so much track closed off, will be a scrum if theres even a half decent crowd.

The BTCC is unlikely to be called off, I think they're just taking precautions just in case it does have to be cancelled at the last minute. Donington is working to rectify the safety issue with one of the shortened run off areas. Then the MSA should grant the licence. They currently have a temporary one anyway.

I believe the council have made the decision to put the deadline for signing "section 106" of the planning permission to the end of May. If it isn't sorted by then the council is likely to remove the planning permission that was granted and possibly threaten Donington to reverse the construction work that has already been completed.

Alan Gow, head honcho of both, BTCC and MSA seems quite confident that the necessary work to achieve the race license and the BTCC meeting will be completed.

With the infield being closed off, that means for the bigger events, its going to be even more packed at area's like the old hairpin. Sod that.

I am down for the MotoGP on the Friday and Saturdau, dont really fancy the Sunday as last year there must have been 25000 on the infield area

It's a pile ****e anyway.... EVERY time I have been to Donington the facilities have been appalling, the car parking (and bike parking) has been a joke, and the general facilities have been very sub standard. Oh, and don't mention the quagmire that develops should it rain - and it does almost every Moto GP..... Other than that, the actual "circuit" is terrific, just a shame that the rest is so bad.

Personally, the GP can't come to Silverstone soon enough in my opinion. At least the logistics are decent.

It's true but Silverstone was the same 9 years ago. People couldn't leave the car parks because they'd turned into quagmires, the facilities were massively under par and F1 threatened to leave the circuit if things weren't improved for the following year.

I do admit Donington's plans for a public transport GP are far-fetched but if they can plan it correctly using the current road network, nearby railway station and East Midlands Airport then it should work quite well. Fans will probably resent it in the first year but by the second year and third year it should be fairly accepted.

Similar systems are already used by NASCAR and MotoGP in the US with no problems and significant improvement.

Only been to the MotoGP last year and Donington once but everything you mentioned for me were the opposite way around, I found car parking even on the rainy saturdya easy (cant comment on bike area) facilities were fine where I was as were anything else, even on raceday altough queues were longer

the only place to top it IMO is Silvertsone in this country but thats had to do loads of work for F1 in past years

I've never been to the MotoGP .. yet.. and was planning on going on the practice day - hubby just wants to see Rossi on his bike, and I want to take photos. Practice is cheaper and far less crowds.

the only time I've been to Donnington was to the Renault World Series a couple of years ago and there were no real problems with facilities and parking etc.. just thousands and thousands of people!

I'm assuming you were in the circuit before the real problems started then, cos the whole area was gridlocked from the A50 J2, through Castle donington and all the way down to EMA & M1 J24. Complete chaos!!
Ever since then, they seem to have had the parking and traffic management a lot better organised (speaking as a local resident, not an attendee)

Also, I was looking at the festival site map for Download the other day and noticed that they've moved that completely off the circuit this year and into the fields at the side of it.

Practice day is still quite busy tbh, easier to get pics though

Jim R, as a local then you should have known to go the back way in, i did and saw no traffic at all. when i say back way i mean melbourne way.

Didn't say I got stuck in it :p
There are ways and means, if you know them and are willing to view some signs as guidance, rather than hard and fast rules ;)

I've been living their 4 years now, and after lot's of people saying how it must be hell during race days/festivals/events etc... it's never really been a serious problem. The Renault thing was about as bad as it's been. It's nice to live somewhere that has a near constant stream of exotic and expensive automobillia driving through it most summer weekends.

The only real pain is seeing the Download-ers sat in the pub at 8am as I drive past on my way to work :'(

thats the way the sat nav took me last year, mind you we were staying nearby, we got stuck on the way out though due to an accident

This is what TOCA (BTCC) have posted up on their forum.
"Folks, Donington have informed us that some of the infield will in fact be open. This will be the section from roughly half-way down the start-finish straight back across to about half-way down the Craner Curves and back up towards Redgate corner, so plenty of space still. Donington has to stick to this due to health and safety regulations that surround the impending work elsewhere on the infield"

I've been to donington for last ten years for MotoGP (i'm an avid rossi fan, and even went in 2000 when he got his first top class win, and the crowd was 19,000 :-) ).
The fact that so many people now go to the GP is in my opinion gonna make for a nightmare this year.
Take into account the fact that wheatcroft wants rid of it for him four wheel f1 to take over thus couldn't care less about good organisaton and facilities, and you've got a recipe for mayhem.
The organisation is atrocious there every year, has been ever since they decided that "heavy mob" private events firms should handle it. they have no idea what the event is about and treat the spectators/weekend campers like football hooligans.
For me i'm looking forward to it moving to Silverstone, with it's 20 year history of organising the f1, it should be lightyears ahead of donington (i hope)

But all that said, i'll still go this year and see the god on two wheels, he's worth every penny and all the heartache caused by having to wait 4 hours to get out the car park on sunday night, then get stuck in a ram-shackle pandemonium that the organisers call "directed traffic", thus taking a total of 7 hours to travel 40 miles, i could have got home quicker on my pushy last year...

good riddance, and bring it on silverstone i say.

Now we're going to have Donington with Silverstones facilities / access.........

and the MotoGP is going to Silverstone :'(
