Domain names & trust

I would trust a website (whatever the name) more if there is a UK address (not a PO Box) and telephone number (again not an 0870 number) and to start with taking payments via a secure service (e.g. paypal) which would give some back up if things went belly up.

Well, we use a PO Box number and a 0870 number, and have never had any problems.

Anyway, you can call the Post Office on 08457 950 950 and tell them the PO Box number and they will tell you the 'real' address it is registered to.

I think the problem isn't so much the domain name suffix, it's the main bit. Having a site called photography.tv or photography.com or photography.net or whatever is pretty lame IMO, because it's simply too generic. What is it for? Gear for sale? Services? A gallery? Could be anything.

Just looking for info on a match I am covering on sunday.. everton v liverpool women at goodison park... went to the mens official liverpool fc website and guess what the tld is... www.liverpoolfc.tv hmm

.tv to me isn't particularly trustworthy, I guess because dodgey/annoying sites tend to use it (also in this list is .info and .me.uk). .co.uk .com and .net are the main UK ones I would precieve as being more trustworthy.

Err, no. It's the top level domain for Tuvalu, formerly the British colony of the Ellice Islands, a small (and rapidly sinking) group of islands in the Pacific. The islands having no other significant source of income apart from foreign aid, they have made a business out of selling their domain name. For obvious reasons it has been very popular with companies in the TV industry but not restricted to them.

I used to live there!
