Yes
Is it standard practice for a registrar to request identify documents before you can register you domain name? As two sites have this policy which I have tried so far Internet.bs and name cheap.

Don't really want to hand these details over to companies which could use them for fraud. Not saying they will but feels like I would be giving away these details to the man on the street almost

tsohost :)

You only need that sort of level of information when you get into the more expensive certificates :)

Thanks everyone

Tso hosting are a bit more expensive than anywhere else at 6 quid a pop + 3.58 a year for who is guard

ill investigate the 123, easyspace and host route

--edit update

just had another word with interent.bs with different adviser who told me what seems more legit information #:

"We do not require identity documents when you register your domains with us. You only have to register your domains with correct whois information.

Only in case the corresponding registry finds your whois details invalid, they will request for your identity documents and then we will have to ask you to provide them to us to validate the whois information on your domain name."

.co.uk is only £4.11 a year with free whois guard for life

Our club was looking to register a new domain name and looked at 123reg, then we had a look at http://www.ukwebhostreview.com/reviews/123-reg/
Went with TSO Host and they do our web hosting now too. First class support from them and really helpful and polite.

Most of those are for 123 reg's hosting package. I have several domains registered with them, but run the hosting elsewhere.

As long as you can move your hosting to a different supplier, that's fine. The key point is not to get a "free" domain name tied to a hosting package. Then if the service sucks you often have real hassle about moving elsewhere.

Don't forget that it depends on what Top Level Domain you want. Some do require ID, that has nothing to do with the provider/reseller...

Not as per standard from Nominet, although when suspected you may not represent a commercial organisation it is not unheard of...

I was going to register as a individual just want somewhere to display photos in a controlled way :-)

I wouldn't choose a .co.uk for that purpose myself...How about a nice and cheap .com or .net....However you'll be more limited by the name you desire I guess...

. Com is coming out couple quid more same with. Net

Think I have must have picked up misinformation but can. Com only be registered by a company?
