Looking to get a new domain name (no hosting), but don't know which uk based registrar to use.

Which one do you use and why?

123-reg its cheap and gives you full control of the domain through a control panel..been using them for yrs and have a lot of domains wiht them.. and yes have used many other companies so have compared :)

If it is only the domain name then 1&1 do it for a couple of pounds.

Another vote for 123, I got 4 names with them and never had a problem with them, they even supply a free page with each name, the page is very basic with no frills but can be useful to start with.

I use UK2.net never had any issues there. They're fairly cheap, do what I want, don't hassle me with any unwanted spam, easy access and control over my account.

My domain is about to lapse and after 10+ years with Easyspace I have had two conversations where I have felt that it is now time for me to move on. The DNS didn't work on my site and I rang them up for some help, I was treated to a rude and unhelpful response, including telling me I could do all this in the control panel myself. I couldn't log in to the CP and they asked me to try in a different browser that also didn't work then told me it was not their servers but my not updating to the latest Internet Explorer  I could maybe accept one browser not working but two different ones?!?! yea right. They did fix the DNS and next day I rang to sort out email forwarding and they fixed that but broke the DNS again on a Friday evening! When I rang on Monday (closed all weekend) to complain that I was unable to work on my site all weekend I was treated to "even we are allowed to have one day off!" Quite unnecessary and I will be moving on as soon as my domain lapses as I would rather lose it than pay them a £15 + VAT fee to transfer it out. If you need 24/7 help then don't go to them it's only 40/5 there

Cutting my nose off to spite my face since 1966

LCN.COM, been with them for years, never a problem, good public relations, based in Stevenage, UK and actually speak English.

dot co uk domain name is £6 for 2 years

I use UKReg for my .co.uk domains and Namecheap for my .com domains

Never had any trouble with either of them

123reg are easier to deal with than 1&1, moving from 1&1 to someone else is a pain in the @rse, these are the only 2 I have dealt with

I used 123 and loads of problems with wep page forwarding. Needed this because I set up a web site with luxipics but had to get my domain name later and then forward to the luxipics address. Should have been simple but had loads of problems with people not able to access my new website for nearly 2 months. I persevered with 123 who emailed automated replies failing to resolve my problems and seemingly incapable of solving it. I was told by someone that I needed a "301" forwarding as others were too flakey and 123 did not do these. In the end the problem was solved when I gave luxipics staff(who were great) access to my 123 accoun and they sorted it for me - don`t know how.

All works a treat now and to be fair to 123 I am a bit dim when it comes to all this. That said I expected better from their customer service and they were not as good as luxipics in helping me.

Another vote for UK2.net and also 1 & 1.

Have been using both for some years now with nil problems although I
think the 1 & 1 control panel is a little better than UK2.

Once you have a domain can you automatically use email addresses @thataddress? I notice that 123reg charge £1/month for each email address. Is that the same with all sites?

No 1&1 and one.com give you a web based setup thing and you can setup as many as you like at no extra cost.

Most companies may set this up auto but its by no means part of the domain.. email requires some hosting for the mailbox..

Has anyone here used godaddy before?
