I've just had an email to say that TSOHost are closing up shop (not surprised really)

I've long since moved my hosting away from them but left my domains with them. They are going to transfer my domains to 123.Reg who I want to avoid at all costs as they are also now owned by Godaddy.

I currently host my sites with IONOS who I am happy with byt would prefer to keep my hosting and domains separate.

Any recommendations for good registrars where domain transfer and management is easy and reasonably priced.

I use "names.co.uk"

I don't use their hosting but their portal allows for user control of redirects etc

As for pricing I have never compared them, so I suggest you have a look and ask them any questions:)

Thanks I'll have a look at them. I'm not too bothered about pricing. They are business domains and the prices differences are negligible anyway.

I just want somewhere that I can change name servers without having to just through a bunch of hoops and overly complex management systems and have the domains renew automatically until I tell them to stop.

As mentioned, I have set up domain redirects and other 'controls' as needed and IIRC I never needed the help of their support team. Granted I had to read up about it but for that turned to be straightforward........though they do have a caveat on the page about making mistakes can cause problems!

Yes, auto renew is part of the structure and as I use my credit card rather than bank details all I have to do every so often is update the card details as appropriate.

NB other than one free email address per domain if you want to use their SMTP servers you pay extra. That also auto renews I think?

PS in regard to emails ~ for a long while I used namesco POP3 but the Plusnet SMTP server for one specific domain email. This functioned very well for ages but then Plusnet made changes that blocked my mobile access to sending emails for that domain. So I had to buy their SMTP service.....not that cheaply either.

For info, the guys that started TSO are now at Stablepoint, that's why TSO were useless. Search Stablepoint on here as quite a few, me included, moved over to Stablepoint

I've used UK2 for decades, but don't really need much other than hosting & email so it's hard to tell if they're good or bad. No noticeable downtime however, and they're not expensive.

I have been happy with domainsfoundry for years, just for domains though.

I have used Fasthosts for over 20 odd years for my domain name registrations without any issues.

I understand they are part of IONOS group on companies, who you are familiar with.

I took the advice on here too and set up an account with Stablepoint a month before TSO were due to migrate my site. Glad I did because TSO totally wrecked it losing the site for three days and all my emails. They had actually deleted/lost the database!

I tried contacting them and they said they'd look into it but didn't. In the end I gave Stablepoint my login details and they moved the wrecked site across to them and together we spent a couple of days sorting it out. At the end of the working day the UK branch would transfer the case to another country (time zones) and they worked on it too. They found a db backup in an unusual place and it was a few weeks old but useable.

I can give them nothing but praise and also say that with TSO there is a God.

Tsohost has lost it's path completely when they sold to godaddy. I use WebhostUK.co.UK for domain registration as well as hosting as they are available via livechat for assistance as and when required, decent costing, uptime is good its been over 12 years nothing to complain.

Thanks all. I ended up going with Hostinger (Dutch company). Prices are reasonable and all domains transferred over without any issues.

I did look at cloudflare as I have an account with them for zero trust on one of my personal domains but their system is quite complex, I didn’t want to take a chance messing something up with my business domains.

Before receiving the TSO message, I had decided to drop the two domains and drop my website. The website had value when I was running the training at my club but as I am no longer referring people to articles, it has little value. I can display images at my club and elsewhere and I have not kept the website up to date.

Ack! I had missed the email from TSO, annoyingly just a couple of weeks after I had renewed an annual contract.

I fled to TSO from 123 a few years ago because 123 were so hopeless, so I certainly don't want to be going back again.

Thanks for the heads-up. I have some thinking to do.

That is interesting, I have been recommending them recently, and I'm probably going to transfer all mine to them in November.

Ionos is getting too expensive.
