It IS rude - which describes, afaic, the majority of people. More so the younger.

You do not have to be popular on here to expect a reply, I would still expect a polite reply to a PM if I had only been a member on here for one week.

Not that I am inferring that I am popular on here:lol::lol::lol:

Yes, very much so. You wouldn't plainly ignore someone to their face in a conversation so why in a personal message? :shrug:

I'm with you Mal - its rude and impolite :)!

But thankfully its only a tiny tiny minority, from my own personal experience, who don't bother to acknowledge or reply to PMs.

Almost everyone I communicate with on here is both responsive and polite :)

Cos its a nice forum :D

In a single word....yes.

However, there are times when I've read a PM as I'm about to leave the interweb for the real world and plain forgotten to send the reply I meant to when I'm next here.

No excuse really but it's more forgetfulness than rudeness.
 
There could be a number of reasons I suppose... but I agree, it is rude to deliberately ignore a PM. I know I can be a grumpy old sod at times, but I wouldn't purposely ignore someone.

However
when the kids text me to say that they are going to be late / whatever and I acknowledge
with an "OK" or "thanks"
they always say "why did you do that"
Seems as though a polite retort is not the done things these days :shrug:

Maybe it was Mals ( galaxy66) northern accent that "threw you" ? :D
 
if it's a PM i haven't invited or requested then i'd feel perfectly at ease ignoring it if i so chose. Personally I respond to PM's in the order i get them, and to fit in with any other commitments I had at the time.

I guess I still see them as 2nd placed to more direct forms of communication such as the phone. I am far more likely to return a call before i reply to a PM or email.

Oh, and let's not forget we all put a different emphasis on our messages. You might send one and rate it worthy of an ASAP reply, whereas the recipient might rate it worthy of a reply sometime in the next day or so. That doesn't make them or their actions rude... Does it?

I think it is rude not to reply with a thanks or whatever if someone is dispensing pearls in an effort to help someone, or if the original message implies to solicit a reply, but not if the PM is only for general info. And also assuming the person acually sees the message. I personally have never had any PM's from this board, and have only sent one message. The message I sent needs no reply nor requests one, but if I the recipient decides to reply then furry muff.
