Doesn't do anything for me photos

Self portraits Ughhhhhhhh - so vain !!! :shake:

HDR :shake:

Black and white photos :shake:

Moon shots. :shake:

Don't think I have - I guess it just depends on your reading list... its never featured in Fiesta (a magazine all about, ahem, Ford's finest small car... or something).

Seriously, no, I haven't seen that before. It was the guy's Desert Storm stuff I was liking the most, really class shots.

HDR makes my eyes bleed

Bird images cropped to hell and just showing the bird, I don't see those much...

Thats it for me.

Self portraits Ughhhhhhhh - so vain !!! :shake:

I don't see how it's any more vain than somebody going and having somebody else take their photo.

Lomography, or photos which have been tweaked for a lomo effect.

I was discussing this with a colleague at work today, and neither of us can understand why you'd want your pictures to look like a cocked-up exposure on a cheap slide film from 1960-something.

edit: here you go. can anyone else see the point?

PRO WEDDINGS. Why oh why do some pro wedding tog need to litter this forum with "A few from yesterdays Janet & Johns wedding" and promptly posts dozens? These pro's know there photographs are OK but still feel the need to get the "Oh, great image mate" comments on here. Could be a lack of confidence in there work or they have a lot of need for self congratulating back slapping.

Birds!! I always think people take them because they can't think of anything else to do with their camera.... and why they have their own section in the forum and aren't in with the other two 'Nature' sections, I have no idea....

lol, it's called business. Search engine optimisation and google ranking mean that the more links and sources of info about you out there on the www helps with the business side of things.

Nothing to do with a lack of confidence, certainly not from the guys I know! and as for the back slapping

And just because they do it for a living why should they not share their images? they work very hard at what they do and invest heavily to be able to provide the best they can. They also happen to be very passionate about what they do.

Sound like a challenge to me, pick the thing that don't interest you and make them interesting, I'm sure if you try hard enough you can find interest in all things using your artistic skills.

Because to be a hipster you have to own a holga, its all the craze at the moment. Film companies are seeing a rise in sales the first time since digital took over :D

Lets hope they bring out some more exciting films!!

Oh, I am also against digital images.

Self promotion. There's a lot of people on here, and even photographers usually need somebody ELSE to take the pics at their weddings. :)

I get that Alby. I have absolutely no interest in motorsport yet I adore thrashing the backside off an Aston Martin and a Ferrari on a track. I much prefer doing! But I can appreciate the skill that goes into nailing something at that speed.

Equally I have not got the time to spend hours in a hide to get the perfect bird shot yet I adore some of the KF shots.

Can I ask those who said they don't like people shots a question?

I used to say the same thing until I bit the bullet and started to take pics of people and now I'm an addict! ;) Is your reticence based on the same thing mine was? Reluctance to be in front of a real live person with a camera in your hand?

Once I got over that initial "OMG I have to do something..." I got to really enjoy it, I wonder if anyone else has the same feeling?

Mine wasn't so much reluctance to get a real person in front of the lens, as it was people just really didn't interest me all that much for a number of years.

Now though, like you I'm an addict, I love it. :)

There are plenty of "doesn't do anything for me" photos, but there is no specific genre that I blanket hate.

There are exceptional images in every field. There's also a lot of crap in every field too.

This sums up my view too (although slightly blunter than the wording I was about to chose ).

There are a fair few photos I see that don't do much for me, but I've seen shots that I consider to be outstanding in pretty much every section of the site!

OK let me first tell you that I AM STRAIGHT

Now the nude photos just do nothing for me and I very rarely look in that section of the forum

I just find that people shots are not interesting to me. I am not digging a picture of the 21 year old model, 34 year old mum and baby or the 75 year old granny. I have no interest in taking portraits, and neither in seeing them. :)

Must admit, I've only ventured into that forum probably about 3 times in total in over 1000 posts I've been here.

But I have no problem with Nude photography. Here is my favourite nude photographer:

Love his photos. :D

I have a real dislike towards the white background family and baby portrait shots. Especially the ones of babies who look like they are on drugs, in my opinion it doesnt reflect the child itself, if that makes any sense

I dont particularly take an interest in nature or sport photography but I can appreciate (and am envious of) the talent and skill it requires.

Oh and another one is new craze of young girls doing the heavily photoshopped, textured, goth thing, sort of similar to the Lara Jade stuff. Its quite oversaturated now in my opinion.

I don't go out of my way to shoot nudes, although I have done them, and have found it one of the more difficult things to do well.

I generally tend not to look at most other peoples' nude images as a lot of it borders on "readers wives" type snapshots or is flat out porn.

cliche landscapes and sunsets don't do it for me now, it's been "rinsed" too many times, like listening to the same mix tape over and over again. Just wears thin :)

frame filling motorsport shots are a pet hate of mine.

As has been said, no fields i directly dislike, just certain techniques and blindness within those fields

Wheras my photographic interest is primarily motorsport and that is precisely because my main hobby is actually doing it. Not in an Aston or Ferrari mind, I have a little racing car made out of bits of Hillman Imp that I use, when it works. When I'm not doing it, or organising, or marshalling I will be out with my camera.

I really like portraits, but don't take them for the exact reason you state - reluctance to have someone else there while I bumble about trying to sort out lighting and get very embarrased asking them to pose. Consequently I wont even ask my friends to sit for me, never mind strangers even though in that case I'd pay them to be there.

Weddings (which are the people shots and I said didn't interest me) are an exception. They don't interest me at all and that extends to the photography.

If the only thing stopping you is not wanting to bumble and look like an idiot in front of real people, do what I did. Get one of these on eBay for a fiver.

Everybody, meet Bruce. :)

well we agree to completely disagree.

looking at any section of his work I am inclined to say his work is not "artistic" or "provocative" in any way at all = merely pornographic

not disagreeing with your freedom to choose whom your prefer -- just not for me.

I'm disillusioned with uninspiring shots. Doesn't matter what the genre, or how technically proficient. My own shots bore me most of the time. Finding what works is the biggest challenge.

I have no interest in emulating the best work of others. If that was all I wanted to hang on my wall, I'd just buy a print and be done.

Especially if there is a herd of cows in it!

Hehe, speaking of which, we had to be very cautious the other day when me n' CGeezer were out shooting Sarah by the River Lune. There was one field we had to go through to get to a particular spot on the river by the M6 loaded with cows, and associated piles laying on the ground, a lot of very fresh wet smelly stuff too. One had to be very careful where one stepped. :)

Then they tried to block our way over the gate when we were coming back through the field to leave. Damn pesky those cows.
