Does your better half know.

My wife knows how much I've spent which to be fair isn't anywhere near as high as other photographers because I'm very selective about lenses and always try to buy second hand if I can.......Oh yeah and I'm poor.:p

If I get to the point where I need to hide my purchases then maybe I need to take stock of why I'm hiding it.

Jill's well aware as we have no secrets either... :D ... I learnt long ago honesty is the best policy... ;) ... and she keeps badgering me to use it too for some reason... :suspect:

Ho-hum she'll probably get tired of nagging me before I do... ;)

:p

Everytime I buy something it has to come from a free pair of boots or handbag, so as long as she benefits then thats fine, although to the total value I doubt she knows and she wouldn't have a clue what was in the bank account.

She knows roughly how much it all costs. I tend to be open and honest with her, tell her when I'm thinking of buying something and how I can afford it etc etc. I think she tolerates it with mild disapproval

Absolutely. In fact when I applied for my first mortgage, she was happy to go for a bit more so I could fund some extra gear! :D

I did have to promise her a holiday in the Maldives though... but I will be taking the camera with me!

Good god no :eek::eek::eek:

It's like a competition in our house, who can spend my salary first.

Me on camera gear, or her on clothes and shoes.

I normally win though..... We normally get through my salary in 5 days :bang::bang:

the only thing she knows about is the d3x

Ok folks, be honest now, does your better half know how much you have spent on your kit ?,
I don't think so.
do you tell the truth if they ask?, or are you less than generous with the figures?.
She has never asked. Why would she?
would there be war declared if they knew:D?
I doubt it. Her Billingham of Contax kit cost a bomb - probably more in total than I have spent on photographic kit in total over my 35-odd years of clicking away.

My other half has a pretty good idea as to what I've spent - in recent months, anyway! IU wouldn't dream of making any serious purchase (over a grand) without making sure we had plenty of relatively "spare" cash around. In fact, while I was contemplating buying the D700, I was specifically told that it would be appreciated if I would "just buy the f*****g thing and then shut up about it!" (or words to that effect). Fortunately, almost all my lenses were FF compatible anyway since I still used film, so the only one that needed replacing was the 18-70 which got upgraded to a 24-70 f/2.8 Sigma (in Jessop's sale).

Well I plucked up the courage and asked her if she has any idea how much I have spent, her reply was "I don't care and I don't want to know, you can't take it with you when you pop you clogs, enjoy it while you can, you don't know what's around the corner"

:hug: and of course the latter part of what she said is very true.

eeerm i.ve gone from a silver canon 300d to a black nikon d80 and she ain't even noticed even when i was showing her how to use it so nope she ain'y got a clue :thumbs:

My OH knows everything, in fact, he's bought almost all of my cameras and equipment!

My relationship is honest and open
what's mine is mine and what's her's is mine

I normally bore her to bits with talking about a lens etc when she watches tv she then dosn't here all the conversation and I then buy it. I did get caught with the 50d when I returned from fishing, my reply was that this one didn't get away

She knows, it was her who actually said 'go on, do it' when I was looking at buying the D40 to replace my Oly, and at that time she swore I'd never sell the Oly! She reminds me regularly of the amount I spend, but I remind her that it's an 'investmet' that hopefully one day will be my ticket out of the Army

Its all for work, therefore an investment! As is pricing up setting up my studio in the garage from scratch, her words "well a few decent jobs will cover it, so its worth doing!" Get in, good girl!!!! :)

Mine has "an idea" how much I spend, the same as I have "an idea" how much she spent on that Harley Davidson!

Edit: We're both open with each other about how much we're spending and if the money isn't there, then we just don't spend.

Not sure, don't hide it but never felt the need to discuss it either :p

As long as she get's her horsey stuff, new kitchen, new bathroom etc she's happy I spend something on myself. Hasn't been anything for a while though :naughty:

fully aware of everything:)

[/sound of zip going down/]...pause....[/sound of zip going up/]

Nope, they're both still there ( :) ) so she's obviously got no idea what I've spent.

Bob

I don't hide anything but generally she doesn't bother to ask although the 600/4 did raise an eyebrow slightly.

My other half has no interest whatsoever in photography.

Why would she be interested in what any of it costs...

....is my argument.

"although the 600/4 did raise an eyebrow slightly. "

It raised mine a bit too.

Lol, apparently i brought a brand new ultra wide angle lens the other day for £40 on ebay :)

although I bought an Arctic Butterfly recently, and if she found it it was £70 she would go NUTS. Big time :bat::

I know where you live...........................:lol::lol::lol:

my girlfriend knows but she aint arsed she just says only buy it if you know youve got the money. i always take her to the cinemas or something and that makes her think i care more about her than photography, what a wonderful world we live in:lol:

Mine truly is a 50-50 partnership, whatever I spend on photographic gear she has the equivalent amount out of our joint account, that’s why I have still only got the two lenses! Lol

Phew, I was just about to post that I was the only one so far that had a secret:D

I didn't say I had a secret :D, I just don't volunteer information (probably because I feel a little guilty about how much I've spent). If I was ever asked about the amount I'd spent I would certainly tell her - I don't see the point of hiding anything.

My OH has set up an account for me which any money I get from selling kit or images (although the image selling hasn't actually happened yet ) and a monthly debit from the joint account goes into. So long as I'm only spending that she's fine with whatever I get. I get to keep my bonus as well and that was huge this year  so i bought a D90.
She just wants enough for our annual holidays and she's a happy bunny.

Andy
