Yes
I saw this little critter crawling on a roller head today so i thought I would get the camera out, I stuck my 100mm f2,8 macro lens on the front and whilst I did not nail the focal point smack on his head it was just in front of it, maybe 1mm in front but the head is not in focus at all but his body behind the head and the roller infront seems to be.
Is there a problem with this lens and if so can it be sorrected???

I'd say the aperture you were using was too wide. At macro distances the DOF is ludicrously small. If I was shooting that I would be using an aperture of f/18 or narrower.

ah right ok will give it another go.

So let me get this right, the apperture on my lens goes down to 2.8 so this is more for say larger static items that you want to have a great DOF??

Ok lens out the bag time again and give it another go.

Thanks

Ok just done some quick tests with the nib of a ball point pen and yes I just need to use higher numbers.

Going to buy a ring flash too as when you get to higher numbers the shutter speeds are low and I have to whack up the ISO so thaks again

better to focus on something bigger with better contrast than a ball point nib

Thanks for that POAH i tried it again on a wasp that was on the window and used a bigger apperture and it is fine.

Just me on yet another learning curve, and learning i am

Hope you meant a smaller aperture - ie: a larger f number ;)
