Does this get any cheaper??

Just don't buy her a camera or the costs just keep rising even quicker :)

Nope wrong. Buy her a same make camera and pass on kit to her so you can upgrade. "It's cost effective love because we both get something for one purchase..."

That's true, my wife encourages me to upgrade, so long as we can afford it, for that very reason. And now my daughter's in on the act. Currently I have an Olympus E-3, my wife has an E-510 and my daughter an E-500. It also means I have a couple of spare bodies if I ever have a problem with my current one. :)

We all wish it got cheaper!

The frequency of purcheses tends to slow down after a few years but the cost of the purchases when we make them goes up to keep the general yearly spend about the same. Of course, there are exceptions, like when moving to full frame from APS-C, which may entail extra expense at the same time to replace lenses that don't give FF coverage; and moving from one system to another, although some of that expenditure can be offset by selling the old system kit.
