Yes
Just wondered as you do, does the queen have a passport or go through security checks at airports etc ??????

I know she doesn't have or need a passport, and I doubt they feel the need to frisk her very often either tbh! :-)

She does, but doesnt have to do the same checks, same as diplomats ;)

Occupation - Sponger?

She works bleeding hard for the country, it's the clingers on (Like 15th in line to the throne) that are the spongers

The 15th inline to the throne being Viscount Linley, "furniture maker and chairman of auction house Christie's" (thanks, wiki). Sounds like he's doing well enough on his own!

Works bleeding hard? :lol::lol::lol:

Hmm... beluga caviar and fine dining every night.. treated like a Queen everywhere she goes... (Or do you think she is a "Philly boy, shall we have an Indian tonight? Call them up to deliver.)

Being told every day what you must do, where you must go, what you must wear, how you must act, hmm I wouldn't like it.

Fair enough....

Offset that with a personal net worth of approx £310m (should keep the corgis in winalot)

Having everyone wait on you hand and foot........

Fine wining and dining...

Best seats at anything she chooses to attend...

Not having to do any "hard" work such as manual labour / factory work etc...

Having people to do for her whatever whenever....

OK I'll give you having to pretend to be enthused at lots of crappy events, and things such as having to host the King of Uganda or whatever....

Waiting hand and foot, or getting annoyed at constant fussing?
Fine wine yep and dinning (fair play to her)

Anything she wishes to attend (or told to???)

Hard work, not manual labour, but travelling, long days, constant tiredness, constantly being in the public eye.

Having to shake Martin McGuiness' hand???

.....never gets to retire.

.....job for life.

.....no choice.

I wouldnt mind betting that if she walked up to you at some sort of venue, you would bow your head in acknowledgement :D ;)

Never been a big fan of the Royal Family, but over the past few years thought about it and came to the conclusion that yes, the Queen is the best idea for our Head of State.
She's part of our History and culture and cost us less than a quid a year. What alternative? A shady Politician perhaps? (Tony Blair e.g) Or an old Celeb, (Ginger Spice, Bob Geldolf etc.:gag: )

I love this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtUH2YSFlVU and still do.
But now I'm fifty I think what we';ve got is best. Wonder what Lynton's alternative is? ;)

God Save The Queen...We Mean It Man...;)

Thats answered my original question, thanks.

Google HRH the Queen and land army.

She did her bit in the past. If nothing else she keeps us entertained with her hats.

I don't mind having a small royal family but it's got stupid now with the number of people that ride the royal gravy train.

Place your bet then.

Exactly, in her place we would have some sleazy politician like Blair, who would probably end up costing us far more and would be as corrupt as anything.

The small amount of money we pay her is a bargain, and would certainly rather see my hard earned tax go her way than some Somali family given a 6 bed council house and benefits.

Ever heard of the word Abdicate?

Certainly have, but can't see that happening any time soon.

....and I suspect your loathing of the Queen will extend to the line of sucession so no problem solved for you there!

:agree:

the queen is basically a well treated prisoner. Basically no freedom to live a normal life. I wouldn't substitute all the good food and wine in the world to be in her position.

Normal to who? If you have been brought up and lived in that environment all your life, then surely, that is normal to you???

Pretty sure that She has no concept of "ordinary living" for most of the population.

Never said I loathed her - I was just responding to someone more or less telling me that if she turned up in Noriwch today, I would be kowtowing to her.

If you were to take the queens personal spending out of the equation. The cost of the upkeep and functions of the "Royal estate" would cost the country far more, as she subsidises many of the costs out of her own private income.

The cost of someone performing the "Official duties" would also be greater as they would want to be paid as head of state.

I'm pretty sure no matter what life you were brought up in you understand the concept of freedom. To me that's normal life. Being able to choose your own life.

She doesn't have it. No amount of fancy food makes up for that

I think the Royal Family is good for the country as a tourist attraction and perhaps for diplomatic reasons.

Personally, for the Crown to survive I think Charles should waive his right to be king and allow William (or even better Harry) become King.... although we know that's never gonna happen!

From a financial perspective I think they should perhaps contribute more to society, maybe set up a benevolent fund for the thousands of people who are in genuine hardship through no fault of their own (on top of any other state help).

Edward the 8th did

For that to happen we'd need a paternity test , as the hypothetical ******* son of James Hewwit wouldnt have a particularly good claim to the throne

Ironically - Prince Charles does that... but... you don't want prince Charles to be King

The woman has done her duty since (and before) she was crowned in 1953, day in, day out, come rain (as the Anniversary showed) or sunshine, she's an example to us all of how to knuckle down and do what's expected of you, shame her children havent inherited some of that devotion to duty instead of devotion to self. I wish her well and a long life. As to a passport, or cash, odd one that but then I cant see her getting on the net for a speedy border EasyJet flight somehow so probably doesnt go through passport control like the rest of us mere oiks.
I believe she does have a Leica though :)
