Does Nikon still buy Canon gear?

I might be absolutely barmy but I keep getting an urge to move over to the dark side. I do get incredibly frustated AF issues on both the 5DMKII and 5D. I recently bought a mint 1DSII for the pro AF functions but its getting a little long in the tooth when compared to the 5D and 5DMKII.

A while ago I read somewhere that Nikon would help Canon users switch over by offering a good price on the gear (on both transactions). The D700 is pretty much right up my street but I am seriously dreading replacing the following one by one!

5DMKII x 2
5D x 2
70-200 2.8 IS
24-70 x 2
50mm 1.4 x 2
85mm 1.8 x 2
17-40 L
430EXII x 4
+ various grips, triggers and accessories.

Am I being an absolutely raving looney or should I make the jump?
 
the problem is I am more than happy with my lens and the ISO capabilities of the 5D's (old and new). I practically live in 1600 ISO for 95% of my indoor wedding work, but the low light AF really hurts my work especially on the outer AF points. I know I could move to a 1DsMKIII but they are so much more expensive that it makes me want to leave Canon altogether.
 
They say that the grass is greener on the other side....When you get there, It might have been greener on the first side....Could work out expensive ...Many have tried and moved from one to the other ....A lot have also moved back....Either way I think only your good self can make that decision...

WRT offers to jump to the other system, I think this was offered to the pro end of the market but I'm not sure if it is still an option...

If you are serious about jumping ship, I would seriously wait until the announcment in November.

Pretty sure the offer was only open to Sports/Press photographers where their lenses are likely to been seen on the TV.............
 
I just popped in to my local jacobs and had a play with a D700. It felt pretty good and solid in my hands but definitely more complicated than a 5DMKII

its not complicated, go back and try it with a simular lens to one you have if you can and compare, or do you know anyone that has one.
 
I have been considering this as well but I have decided to wait and see what the next generation of the two ranges brings. The D700 has the better autofocus and maybe marginally better in low light, but the 5D MkII has such amazing resolution. I didn't bother upgrading to the MkII as I didn't feel that it was enough of an improvement over the Mk1, switching to the D700 would give me the better autofocus and low light performance, but it would cost A LOT to change.

I am pretty sure the 5D MkIII (or whatever it's called) will have an improved autofocus, even better low light performance and have between 18 to 25mpx, and if it does, I will buy one.

The D800 (or whatever they call it) will no doubt be an amazing camera as well, and I have a feeling that it will have a very very similar spec to the 5D MkIII, with maybe slightly less mpx, similar high ISO performance, but slightly better autofocus.

In the meantime you could always buy a 1D MkIV, amazing autofocus and high ISO performance, and all your lenses would fit. Only downside is that it isn't full frame being a 1.3x crop.

The deal Nikon offered was so that there were less white lenses on touch lines.

However, if you did decide to switch I'd say you had more than enough kit to cover yourself while you do it, when I went the other way at the start of the year I started by selling some glass and speedlights and for a while was using a D3 and 80-200mm and a 5D and 17-40mm at the same time then when I got rid of the D3 I got a 1D and 70-200.

I already had a fair bit of experience using Canon's though from having a girlfriend and mates that are all Canon users.
 
Before you make a drastic decision why not just hire out the kit you are thinking of buying for a couple of weeks and try it after that for an event? Surely that way you would have a clearer idea if the move was for you...
 
A couple of weeks hire of even a quarter of what the OP has at the moment would probably cost about as much as one of the bodies.

Although this is probably the best option, the other cameras are backups for my other half so can't get rid of em. But I'm resigned to the fact that Canon is still the way forward for me.
