Hi Folks,

Newbie here, one of my first posts! Would like to say what a warm and nice forum this place is - not many forums on the net like this!

I was just wondering if it was worth waiting until after xmas for any camera shopping- new years sales and the like, are they common with camera gear?

I've had my D50 for 2 and a half years now, and am looking to upgade.

Thanks!

Dom

They've added quite a few lens to the sale today, not sure about camera bodies, that looks similar to how it did late last week.

I think every major highstreet retailer currently has a rolling sale that will end eith when the recession eases or they go bust.

they had a managers special at my local one for a sigma 24-70 for 189..... i wish i hadnt spent all the christmas money on other people :D

Glad to see the 70-200 I bought at the weekend not changed, although I did get them to price match with Jacobs:)

anyone think the d80 kit will go down anymore buy any chance? only im going to get one soon and i dont know weather or not to wait?

Thanks
Gibbo

There was an article in The Independent today about a number of high street stores that face threat of closure due to the Credit Cruch etc. Jessops was one of them.

It did go on to explain, however, that their online store is doing well.

Would hate to see them go - I recently bought my new 450D from their store, and have always found them to be very competitivly priced, and the staff to be very friendly.

I will certainly be visiting my local store in the new year to see what Sale they have for New Year.

Thanks for the replies folks, will strongly consider picking up my items for jessops to pick them up in the credit crunch... would be sad to see them go.

It dropped to its current price from £450 only a few weeks ago...I can't see it dropping more in the near future (particularly when the D60 cahback offer ends).

Jessops' share price has dropped from over £16 to under 90 pence in the last 12 months.....

Wow!! That is a good price. Was just loking at this lens on the website, and it's going for £235. I thought this was a good price!! There's also a £10 off voucher going around, plus a few quid back in quidco too. Looks to be about the cheapest price available? Really tempted now. And they have it in stock in my local store ...

oh well.lol its not exactly expensive at the moment anyway. think ill just go and get it. thanks

Ooooh this sale is like a "should I click or wait" game, the lens I bought (Sigma 20mm 1.8) on Monday has just had another £40 knocked off of it, and the price was cracking to begin with!

I'm guessing if these things don't shift at current sale prices, they will knock them down further.

No, they have gone from a high of £1.50 in 2006 and re now trading at 1p even after refinancing the debt until the New Year, the city doesn't give them any future....

I stopped going in as the service became non existent. I asked the business team to quote on a new 1ds mk3 and TSE 90mm, out of the 10 retailers I contacted Jessops were the only ones not to get back to me.
I'd be a bit sad to see them go as I bought my first camera from them and my first roll of B+W film, but, adapt or die...

Bleedin' 'ell, you're right - I took that as 16.25 pounds not pence :bonk:, which means they are now trading at less that the point at which trading in Woolworths shares was suspended.

Since the list was published in yesterday's Independent two of the other companies listed have gone bust.

Interestingly the article also says "Sales of cameras are declining as more customers take pictures with their mobile phones", yet other sources claim dslr sales are up and Jessops have realigned themselves to target that sector of the market more aggressively as of late.

There are also unconfirmed rumours of two main players in the Jessops management team having jumped ship (the head of marketing going to Vision Express) in the last few days.

The telling time will be mid-January when they are cash-rich, if the banks are planning to pull the plug on them that's when they would most likely do it.*

*Note to the mods - although this is speculation it is based on information obtained from "reliable" sources, however please feel free to delete the post if you feel it does not adhere to the site guidlines
