Hi guys,

Does the Jessops 360 do high speed synch on Nikon bodies? That is my biggest frustration with my Sb400 as I'm limited to 1/200 on my D90. When I'm shooting my 300/4 I want a higher shutter speed but sometimes need fill flash and can't do it with the SB400. The 360 is tempting based on price and TTL compatibility, but the high speed synch would be a deal breaker.

Thanks,
Rick

scratch that, I found the answer (no, it doesn't).

So the next question is what is the least expensive that will do high speed synch? An Sb600 seems like the best bet.

Thanks,
Rick

SB600, Nissin 866, or Metz 50 is a nice gun.

You know you lose a lot of power with FP sync? Like around three stops, often more. It's not good for long range flash, such as with a 300mm lens, unless it's only for a dash of fill-in. Or get a Kirk Flash Xtender, which will claw two stops back.

Hi Hoppy,

thanks for confirming. That was the list I came up with too.

I handhold my 300, so lower shutter speeds just aren't doing it. Last night I was shooting a heron at 1/200 with the flash for just a little fill (-1.5 EC on the flash, -1 on exposure, aperture priority) and there was still a bit of motion blur. If I had upped the speed to 1/500 and bumped the ISO accordingly I'd have had a shrp shot, but the heron would have been dull and lifeless against the background.

I can deal with loosing 2 stops of power as it is mostly closer range stuff and duller days I'm working with.

Thanks,
Rick
